Last Sunday we held our last group Mochi workshop in Totnes!

We made some delicious (and giant) Fruit Daifuku and enjoyed getting to know each other while learning.

NEWS ✈ 🇻🇳🇯🇵

In February 2023 I'll be moving back to Hanoi! I'm sooo excited to finally be going back after our first plans were pushed back because of the pandemic.

However, this meant I was able to really get to know Totnes and develop my Japanese sweets skills within this wonderfully supportive community! Thank you for letting Café Cloudywaaa grow with you! I hope you've enjoyed all your treats!

I'm so grateful to have had the creative space to let an initial interest in Wagashi root itself as a committed personal practice, and be inspired by Devon's unique natural environment.

Whilst I'm away I'll also be going on a long awaited trip to Japan!

Before I go, there will be some last sweet offerings:

It feels really weird to say that I'll be making my last Mini Mochi selection for in January!

There are also two final Totnes based Mochi and Nerikiri Workshops in January up on the website. If you'd like to feed a growing spark for Wagashi then definitely join us for these before I go! I'll be posting more details about these this week. Keep your eyes peeled 👀

A lovely Wagashi and tea study day with earlier this summer.

🍵🍡📚🥢

Featuring delicious Thai sweets from .dessert served with a delicious iced Matcha from Genevieve on the hottest day. So needed!

It was so hot we could barely get the Nerikiri dough to stop sticking, but ended up turning out some lovely creations experimenting with different molding techniques.

I love the super fluffy Kinton style in the first photo.

Hello all!
I've had a lingering question about the history of Shiro An for aaaages.

Did Shiro An making begin after the Portuguese Nanban trade? As Haricot, and Butter beans originate in South America, I was wondering if they introduced these beans to Japan during this time.

I'd love to fill in this missing knowledge gap, but I can't find a reference to it! Can any fellow food history nerds help me?

A lot of the time my favourite Nerikiri sweets are the ones that spontaneously decide to exist, often with leftover dough.

As it's an owl, it probably emerged from a hidden realm.
