🍂🌿 OCTOBER GARDENING JOBS! 🌿🍂
October is here, and there’s still plenty to be getting on with in the garden! It’s also the perfect time to give your houseplants a little TLC before the darker months arrive. 🪴
Here’s your October checklist:
🌳 IN THE GARDEN
• Plant new trees, shrubs and hedging — the soil is still warm and the autumn rain will help them settle in
• Plant spring-flowering bulbs 🌷
• Lift and divide overcrowded perennials
• Cut back faded perennials and remove dead or diseased foliage
• Clear fallen leaves from lawns, borders and paths 🍂
• Give your lawn its final mow of the season and tidy the edges
• Bring tender plants and frost-sensitive pots under cover
• Collect seeds from your favourite plants to sow next year
• Clean out bird feeders and keep them topped up 🐦
• Give patios, pots and garden furniture a good autumn clean
🪴 HOUSEPLANT JOBS
• Move houseplants closer to the light as the days get shorter
• Reduce watering — most houseplants need less water over autumn and winter
• Keep plants away from cold draughts and radiators
• Check for pests before bringing outdoor plants inside
• Give leaves a gentle clean to remove dust and help them make the most of the available light ✨
• Hold off on feeding most houseplants until spring
• Check pots and compost for signs of overwatering
