How’s everyone’s Wednesday going? Today was clean out day for all the chickens. The goats decided to “help” 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤣. We’re trialling using Ethos bedding in the lay boxes instead of straw, this is in preparation for the wet winter we’re likely to have and Ethos being super absorbent we’re hoping it might help keep things a little drier 🤞.
In other news, Bria & Cora bought more chickens! We now have a trio of Brahmas, they’re massive! We attended West of England Steam Rally and came home with more chickens, thank you to Roger Thomas. The plan is to hopefully breed them when they’re old enough 🐣, as well as attempt some more showing.

When Cupcake the Cochin met crochet Cupcake!
We’ve mentioned Cora’s beautiful Cochin “Cupcake” a few times. Cora just adores her (don’t tell the others 🤫).
Every time we go to a steam rally there’s a lovely lady called Jane, who makes the most amazing crochet animals. Saturday morning Cora asked Jane if she could make her a crochet version of Cupcake. I said we could pay for her to be posted as I didn’t expect anything whilst at the rally, but to Cora’s complete delight, crochet Cupcake was ready to come home on Sunday morning!

😎🚂Boconnoc Steam Fair 🚂😎
We’ve had a brilliant time away camping. Of course we took eggs for each morning’s breakfast. I know it’s messy but I couldn’t resist taking a picture this morning, look how bright that yolk is!
There’s also a picture of the girls enjoying their Tiki pineapple mocktail 🍍🍹 - Bria wanted this posted especially for her teacher Paul Steward 🤣

Today’s lay box find, a grey egg! (Olive egg for comparison) The question is, who did it? Was it the new emerald chickens or olive girls?

What an absolutely brilliant day we’ve had.
Our second time entering the eggs but with the addition of our relatively new olive eggs, and the first time showing the actual chickens.
Cora took along her Cochin chicken, Cupcake. Cora had asked for a “giant, golden, fluffy chicken” for around 18months, so when it came to her birthday and all she asked for was the chicken, how could we say no?
Meanwhile, Bria chose one of the Sussex rangers who we’ve had for around a year and has spent months taming it. Bria named her Hermione 🪄⚡️.
Both girls entered Junior Handler along with 8 other juniors. To my complete surprise Bria came 2nd and Cora won Best Junior Handler!
Next the eggs, Bria’s single olive egg won & Cora’s Emerald blue egg came 2nd. The girls then placed 1st & 2nd in the 3 different colour eggs class and lastly they took 1st & 3rd prize in 3 matching eggs.
Such an amazing day with lots of brilliant feedback & guidance from the judges and everyone in the Poultry tent.
If you haven’t ever visited Launceston Show I can highly recommend it.

Today was show prep day 🤩🐓 🛁
Tomorrow we’re off to Launceston Show with Cupcake the Cochin & Hermione the Sussex Ranger and eggs! It’ll be our first time showing the chickens and second time with the eggs.
Wish the girls luck, it’s going to be a brilliant day.
