Sometimes, the loveliest feedback can come from someone who isn’t actually a customer. A TCS recently landed on the workbench of Jim Hosse at San Martin Custom Saddlery in the USA. He had never seen a Total Contact Saddle before — and after having the chance to examine one properly, he sent us this:

“And I have to say what an amazing little saddle this thing is. Fit and finish on this thing is better than 90% of the English saddles that come here for repair. I have never seen one before now. But I am impressed.”

He also told us that the owner has two TCS saddles and “swears she will never ride anything else”. We were genuinely delighted to receive this, particularly from an experienced saddler encountering the TCS for the very first time. The Total Contact Saddle may be minimalist in design, but simplicity has never meant compromising on quality.

A lovely first impression of the TCS from Julia Benz and her 5-year-old Andalusian, Chexy. Julia regularly rides her horses ba****ck and has been borrowing a Total Contact Saddle from one of her students while she is between saddles with Chexy. Her description of the TCS really made us smile:

“Your saddle is a great intermediate.”

For Julia, it gives her much of the freedom and closeness she enjoys when riding ba****ck, but with the addition of stirrups when she wants to make quicker adjustments to her position — particularly useful when riding at a show. The TCS is not a substitute for correct riding and posture but assists the rider while allowing them to retain that closeness with the horse that we all love. Julia had only ridden in the TCS for three days before taking Chexy out in it, which makes this photo even more lovely to see.

There’s something quite special about taking a saddle you know so well and putting it to the test somewhere like this.

A trip to the gallops in my TCS — and a very good opportunity to see how my own set-up feels when the pace picks up.

I’ve included a little look at what I’m riding in, how it differs from what I usually ride in and why and finally how I’ve found the experience. This is, of course, my set-up for my horse rather than a formula for every horse and rider, but hopefully it gives you a useful glimpse of the TCS being used in real life. That is in part the beauty of the TCS- adaptable to a wide range of riders, horses and situations.

And yes… it was every bit as much fun as it looks 🤩🤎🏇🏽

Six years of adventures together — and all in the TCS.

Shannon and Charlie certainly show just how varied life can be, from fun rides and cross-country to hound exercise and hunting. Whether they are tackling a hedge, popping a log or showjuming in the school, this partnership clearly loves getting out and having a go.

A wonderful collection of memories from a horse and rider combination who have been enjoying their TCS journey for six years now. Shannon is already looking forward to the next hunting season! 🏇

A very special first for .down and her pony — their first swim together at Portmellon, near Mevagissey in Cornwall, and they did it in the TCS. 🌊

The Synthetic Total Contact Saddle is a particularly practical choice for riders who regularly enjoy the beach or sea. It is easy to clean after sandy, salty adventures and, unlike leather, will not be damaged by getting wet.

What a wonderful way to develop their partnership together — exploring, building confidence and making memories together.

A little vlog from one of those mornings that reminds you why we ride and to just let go and have a bit of fun… 🥹🐴🤎

Earlier this summer we headed to the gallops and I took my TCS along for the day and filmed a few moments as we went — from getting set up to really opening up the pace.

What I love most about the TCS is the feeling of being so close to the movement underneath you. At the gallops, that sense of connection really comes into its own.

I paired my Premium TCS with our new Premium Equi-suede Saddle Seat to help my stability. I also added a Waldhausen Secutrust Breastplate with safety reins as well as my Point Two Airvest.

It was fast, fun, and a very good way to spend the day! 🥰🏇🏽🏇🏽

Baloo is a very special horse with quite a story behind him. 🖤

Dawn has owned him for nine years, since he was four, but their journey together has not always been straightforward. After two years of struggling to find a saddle that seemed comfortable for him, Baloo’s behaviour changed dramatically. Following a frightening bolting incident and further difficulties in the school, Dawn began an extensive process of veterinary investigation.

Baloo was eventually diagnosed with severe proximal suspensory desmitis (PSD), and Dawn was given a devastating prognosis. She chose to give him a year away from ridden work while she continued her research and supported him with physiotherapy.

During that time, Dawn also began to question whether discomfort from his previous saddle set-up could have been one contributing factor in the wider picture. A friend recommended the Total Contact Saddle and, after Baloo’s year off, Dawn carefully restarted him with groundwork before gradually returning to ridden work.

Five years later, Baloo is enjoying a wonderfully varied life with Dawn.

As she told us:

“He has been a super happy horse ever since, and five years later we are doing a bit of everything. Imagine if I’d said goodbye to him all those years ago! He’s so super special to me.”

Baloo’s journey involved time, rest, veterinary investigation, physiotherapy and thoughtful rehabilitation. Every horse’s circumstances are individual, but we are incredibly grateful that the TCS has been one part of this special partnership’s story.

A very special day out for Lisa Williamson Nutley and Bug 💗

The pair recently took part in the Maidstone & District Riding Club’s Ride for Life — their annual charity ride raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Bug completed the 10-mile ride in her Classic Total Contact Saddle and Premium Leather Saddle Seat, with a bright pink saddle pad to match Lisa’s equally pink outfit. But, of course, the colour had a much more important meaning that day: showing their support for everyone affected by cancer and helping raise money for such an important cause.

We love seeing the TCS community out enjoying their horses, but even more so when those miles are ridden for something bigger.

Well done Lisa and Bug — 10 miles of freedom, comfort and connection, all for a wonderful cause. 💗
