And the reveal.

My goodness this tested my sanity and insurance. Twice this week I was up gone 2am sorting bits out.
10 hours hand painting each individual piece, another 8hrs. Adding magnets to the bottom of every square and make sure they were the right way up, and then adding them to the bottom of 32 pieces. Cutting the foam to hold the pieces. Lining the board and the bottom of every piece.
Binding a book, illustrating and giving explanations on what position each bird holds and the symbolic reason to why.
And firering it all in my very own kiln, Berni, from start to finish.
At least 40hrs of hands on work ...

So the last month I have been working on a surprise.

I pushed myself, to build in a way I have never done before.
I sculpted, but had to repeat the designs multiple times, to try and create the same playing piece. (And if you know me, I am not good at repeating designs)
I then had to do maths, to construct the playing board. And for some reason I decided I wanted to make to fold and contain the pieces inside. So I created a slab built box.

This make was for my mum to celebrate her birthday. A bird inspired chessboard.

Yesterday I gave it to her.

What a joy it was to make these pieces. Preserving flowers from the happy couple commissioned me to create coasters, a plaque and large wide mouth shaped vase, all customised with dates, initials and names.

I throughly enjoyed making them, and the response from the client was lovely
