No, as long as the coin qualifies as investment gold.

Under HMRC rules, that means it was minted after 1800, has a purity of at least 900 thousandths, is, or has been, legal tender in its country of origin, and doesn't normally sell for more than 180% of its gold value.

Sovereigns and Britannias both meet that bar. Bought VAT-free.

A design with roots on the medieval battlefield ⚔️

Both are CGT-free and VAT-free UK legal tender from the Royal Mint.

Sovereigns are 22ct (91.67% pure) and smaller, making them easier to sell in bits. Britannias are 24ct (99.99% pure) with lower premiums per ounce, better for larger holdings.

Many investors hold both.
