In my line of business as I travel within our country, I never know what to expect.
Let me explain…
You know that thought of sleeping the night before you visit a new place the next day, where your mind lingers on some sort of presupposed mental image? If you’ve been there before, easy peasy– your mind broods upon that which is already there, but when you haven’t been there before, at most you can rely on the internet to give you a plethora of some solid evidence as to what the place looks like.
The latter I do not always have the time to do and so “I just arrive there”, and I guess that’s the thrill I wanted to let you in… just arriving there.
The pictures you see are from Merthyr Tydfil. Some few weeks ago I had never seen this part of Mid Wales but it was so worth it. Apart from it being such a lovely town of homes, Merthyr Tydfil could easily boast of being one of the most visually striking in the valleys. And no, they didn’t pay me to say this.
Before I opened shop at their food festival, I made it a point to explore where we were, and I learnt something ever so simple but key.
When you know where you’re going, your mind can sometimes be limited to the various things you can get up to. You may even by human nature contain yourself to a routine experience. If you usually would get ice cream from a local shop near a post office, the mind does what it does, you’d probably do that and faithfully call that tradition, but when you don’t have too much information on where you’re going, you get there, look around, push yourself to explore further than you probably would have if you already knew the place.
