Izzy the Inventor & the Unexpected Unicorn by Zanna Davidson
Marni and I read this new release last night, well, she read it to me in 30 minutes flat (she’s 7 but has a reading age higher than mine 😂). During the first chapter I genuinely felt sick it was so girly and I did wonder if Marni would refuse to continue 😅 but by chapter 3 we were both enjoying it and glad we continued 👌
🌟 Recommended age 5+ on the website - I would say this is pretty accurate, would appeal to younger but also age up a little. Would slot it between Billy & the Mini Monsters and Unipiggle age/ability wise.
🌟 Perfect for:
- Fans of Unipiggle
- Fans of science, facts, experiments
- Fans of unicorns, rainbows and anything girly
- If Unipiggle feels a bit of a stretch for some, this is the perfect gap filler as, although it’s not full colour, there are lots of illustrations, large text and lots of opportunity for funny voices 🤪
- Primarily girls BUT I think those with younger brothers will also be drawn in, as long as you can get them past that first sickeningly girly chapter! The rest is adventure, snot, trolls, team work, bravery, slime and fairy tales all mixed in!

🌟 Book 1 - The Unexpected Unicorn
Izzy is a girl who loves science and when her experiments go wrong her parents ban her from doing science at home. A fairy turns up when she’s a bit glum and takes her off to fairytale land where she doesn’t realise that she’s the hero in the fairy tale and has to rescue the prince - who turns out not to want rescuing anyway 🤣
