💊 Coming soon to Tean Pharmacy!!

From this autumn, the NHS is expanding what participating community pharmacies can treat without you needing a GP appointment first.

The five new conditions are:

🔹 Migraines
🔹 Acne
🔹 Scabies
🔹 Outer ear infections in adults
🔹 Hay fever / seasonal allergic rhinitis in children

Where the service is available, a qualified pharmacist prescriber can assess you and, if appropriate, prescribe treatment there and then.

It builds on Pharmacy First, which already covers conditions including sore throats, sinusitis, shingles, infected insect bites and uncomplicated UTIs.

That could mean quicker treatment for patients and fewer unnecessary pressures on GPs and hospitals.

⚠️ It won’t be available everywhere immediately. The new service starts rolling out at participating pharmacies this autumn.

Had your first MenB vaccination 4 weeks ago? It's time to book your second dose.

MenB vaccination is two doses, given at least 28 days apart. Getting both doses helps complete your protection against meningococcal group B (MenB) disease.

Bookings for this year’s flu vaccine are now open for those who are eligible.

Flu can be very serious for children, pregnant women, older adults, and those with long-term health conditions. Last year, it was estimated that the flu vaccine prevented 104,000 unnecessary hospitalisations.

If you’re eligible, you can now book your flu vaccination online or through the NHS App.

If you’ve had your first MenB vaccine, don’t forget your second dose.

You need 2 doses, given at least 4 weeks (28 days) apart, for the best protection.

You may be eligible for the free MenB vaccine if you are:

✅ 17 to 18 years old and born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008

✅ Under 25 and starting university or moving into eligible residential further education for the first time in autumn 2026

If you’ve already had your first dose, make sure you get your second.

Almost 90,000 young people had their first MenB vaccination dose in the first two weeks of the new NHS campaign.

MenB can cause serious illnesses like meningitis and sepsis.

You may be eligible for the MenB vaccine if you are:

✅ 17 to 18 years old and born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008

✅ Under 25 and starting university or moving into residential further education for the first time

Eligible 17 to 18-year-olds born between these dates can book online if they’re registered with a GP in England or pop in to Tean Pharmacy to book your appointment.

Eligible under-25s starting university or residential further education can get vaccinated at a participating pharmacy – no GP registration is needed.

You'll need 2 doses, given at least 4 weeks apart, for the best protection.

An amber heat-health alert is in place across parts of England from today until 14 August.

During an amber alert, hot weather can put more people’s health at risk – not just those who are usually more vulnerable.

Older people, young children and people with existing health conditions may be particularly at risk.

Take extra care and look out for others who may struggle in the heat.
