So who didn't love Beryl Cook (1926 - 2008) ? This new book is published in the centenary of her birth:

"brings together her major paintings as well as works and drawings never published before, offering an intimate look at her creative journey and the vivid world she portrayed, complete with a large amount of leopard print and dollops of saucy humour"

Also... we love The Gruffalo, so we have the cute and cuddly soft toys alongside the books - the whole magic family including Stick Man, Owl, Mouse, and Fox.

So excited to welcome local children's writer Gail Powell to the shop today, signing copies of her hugely successful 'Eliza Binks' series - historical fiction for 8 to 12-year-olds.

Just arrived, hot of the press, the latest from a Books on the Lane favourite Kate Atkinson.

'It's the summer of 1951 and everyone is looking to put the dark days of the war behind them. The government's solution: the Festival of Britain, a celebration of the country's creativity, grit and ingenuity.

'Foreign correspondent turned war reporter Harry Flynn... reluctantly joins an odd ball team of misfits, ne're-do-wells and downright chancers helping to ready the Festival of Britain for launch.

"One of his dates goes missing and Flynn is deemed to have been the last person to see her alive.

"..Little does he realise the answer to some of his mounting problems may lie in the hands of a precocious, straight-talking 13-year-old called Veronica, along with a rather scruffy terrier who goes by the name of Mrs Betty..."
