Here's something worth knowing as the kids settle back into school. 👓

Specscart at Walkden Town Centre offer free eye tests - no hidden charges, no conditions, no awkward upsell. Just a proper, thorough eye test.

It's one of those things that's easy to put off but genuinely matters, especially for kids who might be struggling to see the board and not saying anything about it.

They're independent, they're local, and they've got over 1,000 frames to choose from if you do need glasses - including single-vision prescription glasses available in 24 hours.

Free parking right outside. Walk-ins welcome.

Help them celebrate 18 months of making Walkden cleaner, greener and more welcoming! 💚

📅 Saturday 12th September

📍 Meet at Hug in a Mug, High Street, Walkden (M28 3JH)

Join local residents, businesses and volunteers for a one-hour community litter pick, followed by refreshments. All equipment is provided, and volunteers will receive a Wombles of Walkden Certificate to recognise their contribution.

"Called into the new Subway in Walkden after noticing they had moved, and I'm so glad we did! The new location is clean, modern, and has a great atmosphere. Nothing felt rushed, and we left with a smile."

The kids are all back to school now - which means the routine is back too. 🎒

If you're looking for something structured and fun to fill those after-school evenings, Salford Community Leisure The Den at Walkden Retail Park has got a full weekly timetable running right now.

Here's a taste of what's on:

🩰 Ballet & Disco - Tuesdays, ages 3–8
💃 Community Street Dance - Thursdays, ages 4–11
🎮 Junior Youth Club - Wednesdays & Fridays, ages 8–12
🎨 Art Club - Wednesdays, ages 5–11
🏅 RISE Gymnastics - Mondays, ages 3–4
🎯 GM Darts - Tuesdays, age 8+
♿ SEND Dance - Mondays, ages 8–16

And on Saturday mornings there's Shop & Drop - drop the kids off to burn some energy in the inflatable sports arena while you get your shopping done in peace. 9–10.30am, ages 4–11. 🙌

Membership is £15 a month and covers a huge range of sessions.

Fuzion Eats are back. 🙌

And if Friday night calls for a Chinese, their menu is something else.

Salt & pepper everything, Korean chicken balls, sharing boxes with proper names like The Fixer, The Special One, and, genuinely, the Jack Grealish Special. 🥡

According to Fuzion, it’s Jack’s go-to Chinese after a match. Their version, anyway. Much cheaper than his local restaurant in Alderley. 😄

We’ll let you be the judge of whether it lives up to it.

🥞 Have you spotted POFF'D yet? 🥞

There's a new family-run business in Walkden town centre and the whole community is already raving about it.

POFF'D serves fresh, authentic Dutch pancakes - proper little poffertjes, made hot to order - from their van by the Tesco car park. And the reviews speak for themselves:
"the most polite and welcoming man", "10/10",
"so many toppings and sauces to choose from",
"beyond delicious."

One local even admitted they'd driven past the van for weeks before finally stopping… and now they're kicking themselves for not trying it sooner!

Whether you're after Oreo, Kit Kat crumbs, or something a little different, there's a topping (or three) with your name on it. Perfect for a little treat with the kids after school, or a sweet pick-me-up on your way round the shops.

If you've got little ones heading back to school this week and feel anxious, Clouds in Walkden Town Centre have thought of something rather lovely. 🎓

They've put together a little section at their front counter - Back to School crystals and tokens, small enough to slip into a blazer pocket.

Blue Aventurine Hearts for calm. Banded Agate for protection, confidence and maturity. Good Luck cards. Little pocket confidence sets.

Whether your child believes in crystals or just needs something small and reassuring to carry with them on their first day, it's worth a wander in.
