From subfloor to stunning finish! 👌

This project started with a brand-new kitchen and extension, but before the beautiful flooring could go down, the subfloor needed some attention.

We repaired the subbase using a combination of plywood and latex smoothing compound, applied a primer to create the perfect surface, and then installed these gorgeous Colonia LVT tiles in Fossil Limestone.

The finished floor complements the light shaker kitchen perfectly, creating a bright, seamless space that's built to last.

Not all flooring failures start with the floor itself… 👀

This is the result of a surface leak caused by a burst radiator. The water penetrated beneath the flooring and into the latex smoothing compound, causing the subfloor preparation to “blow” and break down.

To restore the area properly, the damaged latex had to be:
✔️ Lifted out
✔️ Fully dried
✔️ Primed
✔️ Re-filled with fresh latex
✔️ Prepared again before the new flooring could be fitted

This is a great example of why LVT is such a popular flooring solution for kitchens, bathrooms and busy family homes. Unlike laminate or real wood flooring, LVT itself is waterproof, making it far more resilient when unexpected leaks or accidents happen.

While any leak should always be dealt with quickly, choosing the right flooring can make a huge difference to the amount of damage, cost and disruption caused afterwards.
