Hi Everyone.

Today, we would like to take a moment to talk about one of our favourite products in the store: Dulux Aqua Uniprimer.
This remarkable little product is a primer, undercoat, sealer and stain blocker all in one tin. Designed to be the most flexible primer/undercoat product in the Dulux arsenal, this chap can go on pretty much anything.
Do you have a metal fence that needs to be primed? No problem.
Got a garden table that needs some marks hiding? No problem.
Did your picket fence get a bit marked up? No problem.
Got a freshly plastered wall you want to seal? No problem.
Do you fancy painting the UPVC in your conservatory to match the walls of the previous room? No problem.
Don't like the colour of the tiles on your splashback? No problem.
We've yet to come across a challenge that Uniprimer couldn't accomplish and being water-based it means you can use any top coat you like and it won't affect it.
And as if all of this wasn't enough, we can even tint it to match any Dulux colour, Farrow & Ball, Little Green or Paint & Paper Library colour you like.

What a performer.

This week our focus is on the Maverick equipment. A premium range of brushes and decorating kit from the people at Coral Tools with some phenomenal performance at your finger tips.

The Series X brush provides a smooth and sleek finish and works brilliantly with emulsions across the board and feels solid and sturdy to work with while making the larger sweeping motions feel effortless.

The Series S may be my favourite brush I sell. It might not have the same finish as the Series X or even the Axus Silk Ultra series but what it does boast is incredible paint pick up. Each strand of the brush is triple wound meaning it holds considerably more paint than any of its nearby competitors. It makes woodwork a doddle and can clear entire lengths of skirting with a single dip into the tin. It's a fabulous brush and I love it!

The other items shown are the Maverick headlock roller cage which is unique in that the head disconnects from the roller making a change between colours or sleeves in an instant. We have additional cartridges and even a roller cleaning kit to attach to your drill.

Today's topic is a simple and yet very important one, sanding!

There are many different offerings on the market to help you rub down a variety of surfaces and each one is more suited to a certain job than another.

Blocks and pads give you a much more flexible option to get into awkward gaps and detailed areas wheras a more traditional sandpaper roll or sheet over a cork sanding block covers a larger area quicker.

Multi sander sheets attach to most electric palm sanders and belts are required for larger belt sanders.

Grit rating is also something we get asked about a lot in here. The simple thing to remember is the lower the number, the more coarse the grit I.E. how rough it is and how much it will attack the surface. The higher the number the finer the sanding will be. Higher numbers are generally for inbetween coat sanding for paints and most general sanding is around the 100-120 grit range to remove plaster, sand down filler, scuff up a banister ready for painting etc.

If you are buffing an area or are aiming to really do detailed sanding then there are grit ratings that go to 400, 600 and even higher but generally these belong to auto repair stores who are buffing cars.

Pop in and have a look at all the various options we carry at some fantastic prices.

Today we are going to talk about a very important topic, how to prepare your freshly plastered walls.

As you can imagine, it's quite a daunting and sometimes an exhausting or expensive task to reskim a room or having a new extension done so making sure you follow the correct procedure when painting it is key.

Firstly, fresh plaster should be allowed a long time to dry, in fact the average drying time is between 4 to 6 weeks.
Once you have waited an appropriate amount of time you will then need to seal this plaster before you get down to the task of painting your top coats.

This is where things can get a little confusing. There are products on the market that advertise they can do all of the required jobs at your fingertips but for the most part they can be quite or very expensive in comparison to the usual industry standard, which is mist coating. What we mean by this is taking an ordinary Contract matt and watering it down. There is some argument as to the perfect mixture or dilution but here we recommend a 50:50 split but you can go as low as 70% paint and 30% water as per most manufacturers guidelines on the tin/tub.
The plus side of contract matt is it is readily available and cheap. A 10L tub in our store for example will set you back around £22 as shown in the images so even large areas can be covered with little cost.
You have got specialist primers for walls and ceilings like the examples from Dulux but when you compare the pricing, even though there is a little more waiting and a slightly more runny solution to work with, it seems like a no brainer; not to say that these products won't do a great job, that's exaclty what they have been formulated for but as long as you don't go straight in with fresh paint then you can avoid the paint not bonding to the surface, having all its moisture absorbed and then peeling off like a film when you come into contact with it... and let's face it, that's the last thing you'd want to have happen if you've spent the weekend picking the perfect colour!

Today we're going to take a quick look at Caulk and Caulking guns, also known as silicone guns.

First off, yes there is a difference between them. Some can set you back a few pounds while others carry what seems to be an astronomical price tag. It's all about pressure, more specifically, the pressure the gun delivers based on how hard you squeeze. Most entry level caulk guns deliver at 1:1 which means however hard you squeeze is how hard hard it presses.
The more "hardcore" guns deliver 10:1, 25:1 or even 50:1 ratios so are more suited to more stubborn substances such as adhesives and grab adhesives making the job smoother and the finish better.

Caulk itself is used to fill in those little gaps between things like skirting boards and walls or minor detail work to be sanded or painted. We have multiple different variations of caulk in here depending on whether you want the job done quick or require something with a little more flexibility in the space its going so pop in and see what we can do for you today.

A Happy New Year to all our customers!

We listened to the feedback from 2025 and we have some big plans for 2026. One of which has always been to take onboard your requests and stock items you want.

With that in mind we have begun to stock Zinsser UK Gardz and Peel Stop products in 1L and 2.5L sizes.

Both have incredible sealing properties and whilst totally separate in their uses, can help a project in an older property or one that hasn't seen a new lick of paint in a while.

Pop in and see why others wanted us to get these so badly!
