RIGHT PROBLEM. WRONG TOOL.

This morning, the Government announced plans to force new v**e shops through the planning system.

We agree the industry needs cleaning up. But planning permission won’t shut down the shops selling illegal products, selling to kids or dragging the reputation of responsible retailers through the dirt. A planning application can stop a good shop opening. It can’t close a bad one.

Our answer? LICENSE THE SECTOR. SET THE STANDARD. REMOVE THE LICENCE FROM ANYONE WHO FAILS IT.

Good retailers shouldn’t be punished for the actions of rogue operators.
