A couple of weeks ago, Russell took a trip to No 10 Downing Street as the Chair of the BCTGA (British Christmas Tree Growers Association).
Every year BCTGA hold competitions to showcase the best of the industry. The winners get the honour of their tree and wreath being displayed at No 10 and get to visit for the annual tree light switch on.
After a reception inside, with tummies full of mulled wine and mince pies, everyone headed outside for the official switch on! A great day was had by all and Russell got a day off the farm in December, which is a very rare occurrence!
Russell Parkins, Chair of BCTGA said: “There’s something special about the humble Christmas tree bringing families together year after year to continue traditions that have spun throughout the generations. The simplicity of bringing evergreens from outside to inside to symbolise the start of a new year, and hope for the future, is a ritual that started more than a thousand years ago. The competition winners whose trees and wreaths adorn Downing Street and the FDCO are reminders that this treasured tradition is in great hands.” 🎄
