My August gatherings created into what looks a bit like a dream catcher! I love the sweet chestnut leaves and how they catch the light. I threaded them all onto the honeysuckle vine and initially wanted it to look like washing hanging on the line. The more I threaded on the more it started to twist into a circular shape. I went with it and threaded all my gatherings on. I wasn’t sure how to photograph it. I tried different things trying to balance it, then I decided to hang it. And voila! the Dream Catcher emerged.

August gatherings. It looks more like autumn but then August is a bit of a cross over month. The dry weather has made the trees shed their leaves earlier for survival. I fell in love with the sweet chestnut leaves, I do every year. The brambles looked a bit more lush when I picked them. There are pops of red everywhere with the rose hips and rowan berries. The seasons are shifting.

July’s gatherings made into The Scorpion Butterfly Boat.
If I’m honest it was a bit of a fiddle. The butterflies were so fragile and kept falling off. It took me a while to get going, I’m not used to that. I guess it’s quite good to have a stumbling block every now and then. You have to work through it, all part of the process. I like the scorpion tail. The feathers are the sails, the bark the hull, the fruits the cargo and the jay feather the captain. Anyway, here it is, think of it what you will. I still love that jay feather 🩵

My gatherings in July. It’s been a hot month and I watched the trees on the Crag slowly start to gasp. We are lucky, we have had some rain too but it’s never enough. The butterflies love the sun, they need it to heat up their flight muscles so they can fly and feed. July is a time that the fruits start to form. The sun ripens the tomatoes. It’s been a month of woodland walks with Wilma to keep her cool. Personally I’ve loved the heat but where I live it’s always a little cooler and we often get a welcome breeze from Morecambe Bay.
What’s my treasured gathering this month? The little Jay wing that’s electric blue.

Junes gatherings turned into a meadow. All the grasses and wild flowers finished off with a pheasant feather and the amazing elephant hawk moth. It has a feeling of abundance. I like the pink of the moth against the yellow of the ladies bedstraw. Nature has the best colour palette.

Junes gatherings. The month when grasses come into their own. A time when everything grows and blooms. Wild flowers galore. All the insects are busy. First pickings appear suddenly and then carry on giving. I’m picking sweet peas, french beans, peas and broad beans. I have to say nothing gives me more pleasure. June is lush.

4. Pineapple w**d, it really smells of pineapple. Lady’s bedstraw, smells gorgeous. Mallow.

The creation out of my May gatherings. First thoughts, it’s a bit dark! I try to find a backdrop that shows everything off. Thank goodness for the buttercup 💛 If you zoom in you’ll see the dried mushroom, the forget me not petals and the magpie feather. There’s something peaceful about these still lives. This one reminds me of home, could be the lump of limestone. Anyway, here’s May xx of seeing

May gatherings. The most beautiful month. Full of clouds of cow parsley, fresh leaves and wild flowers. We had a little heatwave too and rain, even hailstones. Everything grew!
By the time I put this together a lot of things have gone over or not dried very well. So here’s what I collected and what survived!

1. The flatlay.
2. Downy pheasant feathers. I think it had it!
3. Buttercups and lichen.
4. Maple seeds or helicopters.
5. Magpie feather. They were very busy with their chicks. They mate for life.
6. A dead spider emerging from what looked like a cocoon.
7. A dried mushroom, forget me not petals and the protective shield around a new leaf.
8. A weird fungus!

Just sitting on the stone bench outside my backdoor with a glass of chilled white wine after watering the garden. Enjoying the peace and the wine and the smell of freshly watered warm earth. ###

April gatherings transformed into a botanical desert island. It should be a palm tree and a beech but I think I’d rather be marooned on this island. There’s even a bed! Which book would you take and which luxury item would you choose? I think I’d take To Kill A Mocking Bird and my coffee pot with an endless supply of ground coffee.
