Yesterday I tested some high value PA equipment. £1000s worth of equipment that is looked after very well indeed.
A booking for our customer required them to have their equipment PAT tested by the venue. A first for them in over 20 years of trading.

This was the powercon plug that was attached to their audio mixer.

Can you spot what’s wrong?

Did the equipment work?

Will they notice a difference to how the equipment works once rectified?

Would they notice anything different should something go wrong before or after the fault was found and rectified?

If this hadn’t been PAT tested…. Would anyone else find this issue?

The importance of PAT testing!

This is a 3 pin plug (obviously!) that is connected to a water boiler.

The water boiler is used in a public setting, but hasn't been used since its last test, 12 months ago.

Water boiler looked clean and well looked after. At first glance all seems well.

Celebrating a very clean testing afternoon - everything had passed... minus a few loose terminals and a new plug, but that's ok - fixable and I did just that.

And then the final test!

It's ALWAYS worth trusting us, to make sure you're keeping yourself and your employees safe :-)

SO close! I found this, on a set of hair straiteners. Unfortunately, GHD replacement flex's aren't something I carry in stock.

I've yet to carry out a job, where I've found nothing...

Here's a handy guide that helps to give you some idea about how to keep an eye on your electrical appliances and leads etc, between tests.

It also shows just a few things that we will be looking out for, when we come to carry out our PAT service.

Most faults can be found by a simple visual inspection and this can be carried out by the user with some basic training.
