A beautiful antique Zanzibar chest. Synonymous with Zanzibar, more of these are in fact from northern India, Gujarat and Sri Lanka. Made from teak during the nineteenth century, these highly decorated chests were used to transport spices, gems and other treasures around the Arabian Seas. Also used as high status dowry chests. Now a great storage chest, quirky coffee table or TV stand.
