We were recently approached by the lovely Poppy about a fundraising event for The Teenage Cancer Trust she was looking to hold at The Reading Tree, and we were more than happy to oblige.

😀📚READ-IN FOR A REASON - 2ND OCTOBER 6PM-9PM 📚😀

Come and join us for a cosy bookish fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust! Read, chat, enjoy coffee and cake, play book Bingo and share recs! A cosy evening of books, reading, good company and doing a little bit of good!

Join us at The Reading Tree, for a special evening of reading and bookish fun, all whilst raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Whether you come along with your current read, fancy discovering something new, want to chat books with other readers, or simply love the idea of spending an evening surrounded by books, you're very welcome!

The evening will be relaxed, informal and cosy, with plenty of time to settle down with a book as well as opportunities to chat, browse and take part in some bookish activities.

The whole evening is about raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, supporting young people aged 13-24 living with cancer.

So bring a book, bring a friend, bring a snack - or just yourself!

We look forward to seeing you there!

There's no ticket price for the event, but we'd really appreciate the recommended donation of £5 per person on the evening. Of course, any donation is completely voluntary, and every contribution will help us raise as much as we can for this brilliant cause!

Sadly we have only been able to arrange two dates with our wonderful Santa, so tickets will be even more limited than previous years. This event has sold out for the past two years, so if you would like to attend we recommend securing your tickets early.

🎅📖 Storytime with Santa – A Magical Christmas Adventure for Kids! 🎅📖

Join us for Storytime with Santa, where the jolly man himself will read THREE enchanting Christmas storybooks. Your children will be captivated by the tales of wonder, laughter, and festive cheer, all told by Santa Claus in person! 🎅

But the fun doesn’t stop there! After story-time, kids will get the special chance to meet Santa, share their Christmas wishes, and pose for a precious photo with him. 📸🎁

Then, let the creativity begin! Your little elves will create their own Reindeer Food, ready to sprinkle on Christmas Eve to guide Santa’s sleigh, and a wooden ornament to decorate 🦌✨

To make the day even sweeter, every child will enjoy a delicious Hot Chocolate or Babyccino, a Christmas Cupcake and will receive a wrapped Christmas book from Santa to take home, along with a personalised “Nice List Certificate” signed by Santa himself – the perfect gift to keep the magic of the season alive! 🎁📚

We will be closed next week between the 9th - 11th September.

Each year we close for a few days in September to reset the shop after the extremely busy summer holidays. It gives us a chance to reorganise the shelves, undertake our yearly stock take, and catch up on some projects that are difficult to do with customers in the shop.

We've also ordered a further 15 bookcases for the kids older chapter books, and another 5 that we are going to try and squeeze into adult non-fiction, so those will be installed whilst we are closed.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst we are closed.

The time has come for us to say goodbye to G and Evelyn as they head off to begin their next chapters at university. Evelyn has been part of The Reading Tree for the past two years, and G — my lovely eldest daughter — has been a familiar face in the bookshop since we opened five years ago. We will miss them both dearly and wish them all the very best for their next adventures.

If you have seen either of them in the shop over the years, please join us in wishing them luck — we know they will both be brilliant.

⭐️STORE CREDIT FOR UNWANTED BOOKS⭐️

Did you know we offer store credit in exchange for your unwanted books. They can be any genre, for adults or children, fiction or non-fiction 😍📚

It means that:
📚 We are constantly getting new stock to replenish our 5,000 square foot of floor space!
📚 Our lovely customers get credit for their unwanted books to spend on more books!
📚 The books get another lease of life!

Important things to note:

📚 Please limit the number of books you bring in at any one time to no more than 3 bags (it can be difficult for our staff to process a large number of books, particularly when the shop is busy)
📚 Credit is dependent on title and condition. We will not accept damaged books. Books must be in good condition.
📚 We do not buy books for cash.
📚 There is no expiry date on store credit and you are able to use it in multiple visits if you wish.
📚 We cannot guarantee that we will be able to take every book you bring us.
📚 We can get very busy at the weekends and during school holidays so we may take a bit longer to process your credit. Please be kind to our staff, if we ask you to wait.
