Volta Books will always try its best to support independent creatives... be that writers or artists. Human creativity needs protecting!

Firstly, we do this by offering one local author the chance to join us in the shop on a Saturday to sell their books. No table fee, no commission. Just an extra platform for exposure and direct contact with customers.

Secondly, we don't use AI. We have a wonderful designer who creates our poster backgrounds, signage, templates, you name it and she can do it. She is quite literally, a diamond (see the drawing she did from memory of one of the corners in the bookshop!).

Today, I have worked on the new and improved template from aforementioned designer for the aforementioned author Meet and Greets.

Give or take a couple of days when I am getting my squirrels in a row, a collection of the next three can perpetually be found here...

Yep, it really will have been a whole year of a 'bricks and mortar' shop next month!
To thank everyone for their support the last 12 months, and to entice a few new faces in too, we will have free things going on all day on the 14th of November.
Tania Pettet, local author, will also be with us for the day selling her book, 11 Warten Way.

Truly beautiful night of romantasy yoga in the book shop. The atmosphere was soul soothing.

Craft night was so much fun! The spook was on making wool reading ghosts and eating pumpkin scones.

There is currently four spots remaining for next months craft night ‘Hoop-La’, poster at the end. Tickets can be purchased online or over the counter.

Lorna was Volta Books first author meet and greet ever and I am so pleased to be welcoming her back.
Since she was last with us, she was shortlisted for the RNA Debut Romance Novel of the Year 2026 and released the sequel to 'Finding Home', 'Sisters of the Tide'.
She will be bring both books on Saturday 7th November, 10am to 4pm so you chat to and purchase signed copies of her books directly.

Is this how I’d planned to reconstruct the non-fiction area? Nope. Is the perfectionist in me 100% happy? Nope.
But you know what, there’s a lot more space for non fiction and I can now look at getting additional shelving for extra fiction.
I’ve already got a few tweaks I know I want to make this upcoming week (we’ve established my inability to stop moving things about so 🤫 ) including some vibe lightning for the darker days ahead!
But most importantly, I’m so proud of how Volta continues to grow in every respect. On which note, I really do need to start planning the One Year Nene-aversary which will happen NEXT MONTH!

Unfinished Objects Club last night was another hit!
We had crochet, embroidery, cross stitch, needle felting, crafts I can’t remember the name of ( 🤦🏻‍♀️ ) and colouring including swear words and my own project which was making the bags for The Lost Hour extra celestial.

Tickets are now available for Novembers club and there’s also some left for the second time slot of The Lost Hour.
