After noticing swelling in one leg in 2013, Maria's life changed dramatically.

Maria was diagnosed with primary lymphoedema while living in Spain, after doctors struggled to understand what was causing her leg swelling. At the time, awareness of lymphoedema was limited and treatment options were extremely restricted.

Maria has shared her story to help raise awareness and share the message that although lymphoedema currently has no cure, treatment and self-management can still make a life-changing difference. 💜

Last week was . We've been reflecting on the key takeaways from communicating with patients, communities and even those at Patient Choice.

We've learned the power of small conversations and the importance of feeling heard, supported and understood. 💙

Whether it’s opening up about how you’re feeling, checking in on someone else, or recognising the emotional impact of living with a chronic condition, every conversation matters.

Living with conditions like lymphoedema or lipoedema can affect more than physical health. It can impact confidence, daily routines, anxiety and mental wellbeing too.

Our key takeaway? Don’t stay silent. You are enough, bad days are okay, and support is always worth reaching for.

Let’s keep listening, acknowledging and supporting each other, this week and every week.

Let's recognise our pets!🐶🐱

It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and we all know our pets are so important to us and can help improve our moods on our worst days. When living with a chronic condition, having a pet can provide that bit of love and comfort that is crucial in life🥰

📸We'd love you to share your pets with us! Drop a picture in the comments🐾

We'll start. This is Lola, Patient Choice's very own therapy dog. Lola is PAT registered but not actively volunteering. That doesn't stop her from supporting us all when needed. With her help, we can ease our minds on a busy day and better support patients because of it. Thank you, Lola!

For Mental Health Awareness Week, we spoke to Sam, Patient Choice’s Mental Health Champion, about why talking openly about mental health matters.

Sam shared that having someone to listen can make a huge difference, helping people feel heard, supported and reassured that their feelings are valid. Her message to everyone this week is simple: don’t stay silent, talk to someone.

A few reminders from Sam:
You are enough. It’s okay to have bad days. Be kinder to yourself. Tomorrow is a new day.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the difference that appropriate treatment can make for people living with chronic conditions.

A timely diagnosis, the right support, and correctly prescribed compression garments can do more than help manage physical symptoms. They can also help reduce anxiety, improve confidence, ease the daily mental load and give people a greater sense of control.

For many patients, being listened to, believed and given the right care can be a powerful step towards feeling more supported in their everyday life.

Living with a chronic condition is physically and emotionally challenging, but no one should have to manage it alone.

The right treatment matters. Mental well-being matters. 💙

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on the emotional impact of living with lymphoedema.

For many people, it’s not just swelling. It’s the daily planning, compression routines, discomfort, heat, fatigue, clothing choices and the constant need to think ahead.

Real patients have shared how lymphoedema can affect confidence, self-esteem, social plans, holidays, and mental well-being. Some described it as a grief process, missing the carefree life they once had.

Living with lymphoedema can be hard, even when someone looks “fine” on the outside.

This week, let’s listen, acknowledge the hidden emotional load, and help people living with lymphoedema feel seen, supported and understood.

☀️ Wearing compression and feeling confident 🌞

We know that living with long-term conditions like lymphoedema and lipoedema - especially when compression is part of daily life - can be challenging and, at times, downright difficult.

Physically, compression garments can be tricky (and tight!) to put on and remove. But it’s not just the physical side.

Wearing compression every day can also impact how you feel about your body and your confidence - especially in warmer weather, when your body (and compression) can feel more visible.

If you’ve ever felt self-conscious or unsure, you’re not alone. 🩵

You deserve to feel comfortable and confident being you. That’s why we’ve put together some supportive tips to help you maintain a positive body image and feel more confident in your compression:
