A bit of a Valentines themed guitar today! This beautiful 2017 D'angelico Excel DC Shoreline has been the main instrument of the amazing London Guitarist .cervellin for his function work. Those sparkling P90 pickups will have been heard at countless weddings, special events, and more for the past few years. It came in for a deep clean and a setup as the years of gigs had certainly left their mark! Luckily, aside from the electronics cleaning, it was an easy job to get every part shining and sparkling as it should be! For this setup it was strung with Rotosound pure nickels 10-46 for that vintage 50s and 60s sound, perfect for such a vintage styled guitar! Keep a look out around the UK for this beauty!

This festive season just gone has certainly been a busy one here at The Guitar Spa! Definitely a season of firsts too with this headstock repair!
This poor Tanglewood Blackbird came in with a rather nasty break after taking a fall. A rather common problem with guitars with this style of headstock. Thankfully though it's a much more simple repair than it looks. So don't throw away your favourite guitar if it looks like this, I promise you it's fixable!
The first thing to do is assess the nature of the break and brush out any loose wood chips with a brass brush. Once that's done and you have a smooth, even surface, you can move on to clamping and glueing! For this I'm using the ever-reliable Titebond Original Wood Glue. It's a simple product but very versatile for a whole range of guitar work and provides all the strength a joint of this nature will need! So after applying a helpful dose of the stuff, I get out some trusty G Cramps and clamp it down for around 2 days. I want to let it go all the way off with the most pressure possible and it's always better to leave it longer and have it stay glued than shorter and find it's not set when you string it up!
Then came the job of refinishing the neck. I was able to fill the surface crack so the back of the neck felt good under the hands, but the original finish was taken off in the process. So after returning the original black colour to the section that broke, I sprayed the whole back of the neck with a satin acrylic for a uniform look and feel. You can see the finish start to take on the right look as I spray!
Then after a level sand it was ready to be strung up! I gave the whole body a good clean with Dr. Liston's Remarkable Remedy to start. It's a truly remarkable cleaner which keeps glossy finishes glossy and matte finishes matte! Then after oiling the fretboard with some Dunlop 65 lemon oil I strung it up with someRotosound Tru Bronze 12 gauge strings. Some work was needed to lower the action and the nut height after setting the neck relief, but once that was done it was back playing as good as before and ready for years more playing!

Here is part 2 of the job I had for Music Gym in Watford! This time around it's another couple of Yamaha Pacificas; a black one, and a beautiful sunburst one!
First is the black one, this was relatively simple in that the jack plate needed replacing. The original was completely snapped and was being held together with gaffer tape! So after a quick look at Northwest Guitars, I found the perfect replacement! With that in, it was on to the deep clean with the Dunlop 65 Cleaner and the amazing Dr. Liston's polish! And then finishing the fretboard with some Dunlop 65 Lemon Oil! Then came the setup, the same specs as the others with a 2mm action and the pickups balanced to factory specs!
Then came this beautiful sunburst. Definitely my favourite of the bunch! Sadly though, the Tone Pot was completely broken, it just spun around! So in the same trip to Northwest Guitars, I managed to find the exact replacement Alpha Push/Pull Pot. This was actually my first time wiring in a Push/Pull Pot but it turned out to be a very simple process, copying the same wiring as was on the old pot! Once it was in, the same deep clean followed with a clean, polish, and fretboard conditioning! And once the setup was done these guitars were ready to ship back to Watford with years of life left in them!
