Win a shop for a year at The Sovereign! 🙌 🤩

We're inviting local entrepreneurs to enter a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition where they can win a year’s free rent in a retail unit at the Sovereign in Weston-super-Mare.

This competition is part of plans to revitalise the Town Centre, responding to residents calls for fewer empty shops and greater support for innovative small businesses.

It’s open to all new and existing local businesses without physical retail space who would like to operate in Weston.

Applications open today (Thursday 1 October) and ask a series of questions about business plans, financial information and a community impact statement outlining what the business will contribute to Weston and the community.

Finalists will be selected by a panel that includes Cllr Mike Bell, our Council Leader, and Dan Aldridge, MP for Weston-super-Mare.

Applications close on Monday 30 November and the finalists will ‘meet the Dragons’ in December 🐉

The winner is set to receive 12-months free rent and service charge in the Sovereign, likely to start from 1 March 2027 following a refit and set-up period. Business rates will still apply.

You can find full details and terms and conditions for the Win-a-Shop competition at https://n-somerset.gov.uk/business/regeneration-development/win-shop-sovereign-competition
