I haven’t posted in a very long time. I also haven’t built or progressed with anything for a while so I built this last week to complete my “working model” engine series.

This is the Airfix Engineer series working jet engine. Exposed turbine, lights and driven by a small air motor in the wing, ducted to come out directly behind the main fans and drives the turbine.Its fitted with a speed controller to idle up and down. Very cool model to build

*Haynes 1/4 V-Twin Motorcycle working engine
* Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T “Red Arrows”
* Trumpeter 1/3 AR15/M16/M4 Family Mk18 Mod CQBR
* Testors 1/48 OV-10A Bronco
* and a sorry looking kids snap together tank I used as a paint mule after my airbrush gave me trouble.

Another two kits are being worked on: 1/72 Revell Tornado and Airfix Eurofighter Typhoon. Pictures of those will be posted shortly.

Royal Air Force Merlin MK3 or 4 doing a low sweep across Sand Bay beach, Somerset, UK where I live.

I always seem to miss these and the Chinooks when they have gone over before so I am glad I was outside when this one flew by.

My first air show for years and my first in the UK. It just so happens to take place near enough on our doorstep. Weston Super Mare beach front had two days of everything from a WWII Hurricane to a Yak-3, Gazelle helicopters, wing walkers and so much more.

This is a video I put together of the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic display team in action on Sunday afternoon.

The team staging airspace was over our house so we watched all the action from our garden on the Saturday.

Finally I managed to get one of my “holy grail” dream kits that I have always wanted. The Hasegawa 1986 Yamaha TZR250 1KT limited edition in 1:12 scale.

I owned one of these for twenty years and wish I didn’t have to sell it but I couldn’t bring it with to the UK. A very iconic quick 2 Stroke machine with some amazing power to weight ratio. Not to mention the feel of the YPVS power band.

Haynes In-line 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, 1/4 scale working engine starting and running video. I did the V8 a few months back and enjoyed building it a lot. So I have been on the lookout for more kits in the series and picked this one up at a good price.

Built in about 2 1/2 hours. I set the timing right first time on this one unlike the V8 version which was fiddly. You really do learn a lot about the workings of an engine from these. I would highly recommended these kits.

Went to the Weston Super Mare model train club display at our village hall. All scales and gauges of trains. Including a scene with Mr Bean driving his “couch-mini”.

Trumpeter 1/3 M-16A4 automatic assault rifle with high end scope, laser sight and barrel handle attachments. 7th build of the year so far.

Done with Molak enamels Khaki and matt black airbrushed.

Also shown with the previous Trumpeter AR-15 SR-25 version I did a little while back.
Both are great kits and are really fun to build and I would highly recommend them.

Video of the Haynes V8 working car engine in action with fresh batteries and a sq**rt of WD40.

Timing is a bit out but the plugs and distributors are set as best as I can get them. They are supposed to light up on TDC of each so it’s slightly out. It’s close enough to demonstrate the action of spark in a combustion engine.

Also a pity the drive motor mechanisms are louder than the speaker emitting the V8 roar. One of the most fun kits I have ever built.

Airfix 1/72 RAF Red Arrows Hawk
Airfix 1/775 Cutty Sark clipper ship
Ugears 1/1 mechanical working gun and a new display cabinet with internal lights that I picked up for free. With my new stash building up I’ll fill that quickly.

Decals on the Red Arrows kit are a bit tough to do correctly and slight bad fit on the cockpit canopy but overall a great build for a beginners set.

The Cutty Sark was only 11 pieces (I’ve already lost a life boat piece) and a great little kit for the subject.

Impressed with the Ugears laser cut wooden model gun. It has a working automatic repeating rubber band shooting capability with “blow back” feature like a real firearm. Will be looking to build more from the Ugears series in the future as it’s something different.
