Another Summer Season down… 6 more to go!

A huge thank you to everyone who’s visited, browsed or bought from us this summer. It’s personally been one of the most enjoyable summers I’ve had in quite a few years.

As I always say, Razmatazz relies heavily on Weymouth’s summer tourist trade — it’s vital to the business and helps see us through those long, quiet winter months.

So, a few stats for you…..because I love stats and looking at the numbers!

From 1st June to 31st August, we sold 19,706 items and served 10,542 customers. That works out at roughly 115 customers served every single day over the three-month period.

Not bad going for myself and two other members of staff!

A massive thank you has to go to Jamie and Connor, who have both worked incredibly hard throughout the summer and done the business proud.

A special mention goes to Connor, whose final day was Saturday as he now heads off to university. It’s been an absolute privilege getting to know him and working alongside him over the past four years.
I wish him all the very best for the future, and I know he’s going to go on and do great things at university.

And that does mean we now have a spot to fill!

We’ll shortly be looking for a new member of staff to join us, mainly working Saturdays and during school/college holidays. So, if you’re 16 or over, friendly, reliable and think you’d enjoy working at Razmatazz, pop into the store and have a chat with me.

September is shaping up to be a very busy month, especially with the release of the Pokémon 30th Celebration, so there’s plenty happening at Razmatazz over the coming weeks. Plus there also Halloween and I plan on moving the shop around to accommodate more Anime merchandise.

Some context

Since February, Pokémon has gone crazy for us. I’d usually get around 10–20 general enquiries a week. That’s now closer to 150–200 a week, mostly asking the exact same thing:

“Got any Pokémon?”

It’s genuinely become overwhelming and difficult to keep on top of. I’m someone who can quite happily go days, sometimes weeks, without anyone messaging me personally, so suddenly having this many messages, calls and emails coming in every week has been… an adjustment.

All the while our actual Pokémon allocation has remained exactly the same.

But the main reason for the change is release mornings.

I don’t want to arrive at work to find the same group of dudes who never shop with us for anything else waiting for the store to open so they can strip the Pokémon from the shelves before anyone else has had a chance.

It’s weird, it puts regular customers off, and I personally don’t enjoy you all staring through the window at me while I’m trying to set the shop up for the day.

So, I’m done answering endless availability questions, done dealing with release-day chaos, and done making it worthwhile to camp outside the shop first thing in the morning.

So that's why I'm adjusting how I'm doing things.

The comments will be staying open. Feel free to tell us exactly what you think of the new policy – positive or negative. After all, every comment helps the engagement and gets the post seen by more people, so its win win.

Besides, I suspect the people most upset by us making it harder to turn up first thing and clear the shelves will probably be the exact people we're trying to make it harder for.
