I'm now off to Tenerife for a little sunshine and a recharge, so things will be a little quieter on here for a week or so. I'll be back soon with more flowers, more workshop news and (hopefully!) a suitcase full of inspiration.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer, and I hope to see many of you this autumn. 🌿

β˜€οΈ Summer at Its Best...

I spotted this beautiful clump of Crocosmia at Crook Hall Gardens a couple of weeks ago, and it completely stopped me in my tracks. Isn't it stunning? ❀️

I think we're in that wonderful moment when summer gardens are really at their best. Everywhere you look there's something new coming into flower.

The roses are still giving their all, the hydrangeas are beginning to shine, the sweet peas are filling the air with perfume... and then along comes Crocosmia, bringing those fiery oranges and reds that seem to glow in the sunshine.

It's such an inspiring time of year to be a florist. 😊

I'd love to know...
What's looking its best in your garden at the moment?

Or, if you don't have a garden, what's the one flower you've spotted recently that's made you smile?

Even better, share a photo in the comments, I always love seeing what's growing in your little corners of the world. πŸ’š

πŸ’ A Huge Thank You!

A big thank you to all the lovely ladies who joined me for my Summer Flower Arrangement Workshop at Crook Hall Gardens on Saturday. πŸ’š

We had such a lovely morning together, surrounded by beautiful summer flowers, plenty of creativity and lots of good conversation.

Just look at these gorgeous arrangements! ✨

This was a brand new workshop for me, using a steel grass base to create a natural design base and I have to say, I absolutely loved the results. Every arrangement was so different, and the finished designs looked stunning.

I think this one will definitely be making a return in 2027! 🌿

Thank you as well for all your lovely feedback. It really does mean a lot to hear that you're enjoying the workshops, and it's always such a pleasure to welcome so many familiar faces back alongside those joining me for the first time.

Thank you for spending part of your weekend with me, and I hope your arrangements are still bringing a little bit of summer into your homes. 🌸

Take care over the summer, and I hope to see you again soon. πŸ’š

πŸ‚ Autumn Is Coming...

I know... I know... it's only July! β˜€οΈ

But here's the thing... florists are always working one season ahead, so whilst many of you are making the most of the sunshine, my mind has already wandered into autumn. 🍁

I'm thinking rich colours, beautiful textures and all the wonderful things that make this time of year so special.

For me, it's the season of...
πŸŽƒ Pumpkin flowers
🍁 Autumn wreaths
🌾 Harvest-inspired designs
πŸ•Έ Crisp cobwebbed mornings
πŸ”₯Warm cosy evenings

I love every season, but there's something about autumn that feels very creative for me. The colours become richer, the textures more interesting, and nature gives us so much to work with.

So, I'd love to know...
What do you look forward to most about autumn?
🍁 The changing colours?
πŸŽƒ Pumpkins everywhere?
πŸ‚ Crisp walks through crunchy leaves?
β˜• Cosy evenings?
Or is there something else you love?

Tell me in the commentsβ€”I always enjoy hearing what everyone looks forward to πŸ’š

And... my autumn workshops are nearly ready and should be launching very soon, so keep your eyes peeled! πŸ‘€

🌸 The Last Workshop of the Summer

Well... I can't quite believe I'm saying this, but tomorrow is my last workshop of the summer.

What a lovely season it has been. πŸ’š

I've met so many new faces, caught up with lots of familiar ones, and spent countless happy hours surrounded by beautiful flowers, creativity and good conversation.

It's also been wonderful to share the exciting news of the new studio with you all. Thank you for the incredible support, encouragement and brilliant ideas you've shared over the past few weeks. It really does mean a lot, and you've helped shape some exciting plans for the future.

We've been lucky enough to work with the abundance of summer flowers too... beautiful roses, peonies, stocks, astrantia, grasses and all those wonderfully natural stems that make summer arrangements feel so full of life.

A huge thank you to everyone who has joined me at a workshop this season. Whether it was your first visit or you're one of my lovely regulars, you've all helped make it a summer to remember. 🌿

Now here's the funny thing...

Whilst many of you are hopefully enjoying this glorious sunshine, my mind is already racing ahead to autumn! πŸ‚

I'm thinking...
🍁 Autumn wreaths
🌾 Harvest-inspired flowers
πŸŽƒ Pumpkin arrangements
🌿 Terrariums
πŸ•ΈοΈ Halloween-inspired creativity

Florists are always one season ahead!

The autumn workshop programme is almost ready and should be launching very soon.

🌿 The Votes Are In...

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to comment on my post about possibly changing the business name. I was happy to see how many of you shared your thoughts, memories and kind words. It means a lot that you cared enough to be part of the conversation. πŸ’š

Well... the result couldn't have been much clearer!

Every single person who commented wanted us to keep The Northern Flower Garden.

And there I was, thinking it might be time for a change! 😊

Reading through your comments made me realise just how much love there is for the name. So many of you said it perfectly captures what we're about and reminds you of natural, seasonal flowers, creativity and a welcoming place to learn.
When we first chose The Northern Flower Garden, it reflected our love of garden-inspired floristry and the belief that flowers should feel natural, beautiful and accessible to everyone.

Although the business is evolving, perhaps that's exactly the point. The new studio will allow us to offer more workshops, floristry courses and wedding flower tuition, but at its heart, nothing has really changed.

Flowers, creativity, learning and community will always be what The Northern Flower Garden is all about.

So...
🌿 The Northern Flower Garden stays. 🌿

Thank you for helping me make that decision. It feels like the right one, and I'm so grateful to have such a supportive community behind me as we begin this exciting new chapter. Here's to many more years of flowers together. πŸ’

Check out the photo from Crook Hall Gardens last year. Beautiful summer flowers, well worth a visit! πŸ©·πŸ’™

πŸ”¨ Studio Update #4

Well, it feels like we've reached a bit of a milestone...
The builders have now finished Phase One of the studio renovation, and we are now totally waterproof!

Suddenly, it feels less like a building site and more like an actual studio.

There's still plenty to do (honestly, can you believe it?!), but I can now start getting into the space and making it work for us. That's the really exciting part.

For so long, this has all been plans, sketches and ideas. Now I can actually see where the workshop tables will go, where the flowers will live, and how the space will feel when it's full of people creating together. πŸ’

Of course, before any of that happens, there's a rather glamorous job to tackle... stripping layers of old flaking paint! 🎨

I suspect I'll be recruiting my boys to help with that one. Wish us luck! πŸ˜…

It's starting to feel very real now, and I can't wait to share more updates as the studio slowly begins to take shape. πŸ’š

❓ Big Question: A New Name?

As we prepare the new studio, I've found myself thinking about something quite important... does our name still reflect what we do?

When we first chose The Northern Flower Garden, it was inspired by a natural, garden-led approach to floristry. It reflected my love of seasonal flowers, natural materials and the idea that beautiful flowers and creativity should be accessible to everyone, whether gathered from the garden or enjoyed in a workshop.

That ethos hasn't changed, and workshops, flowers and community will always remain at the heart of what we do. πŸ’š

However, as the business evolves and we move into our new studio space, we'll also be exploring some new directions. Alongside our seasonal workshops, I'm looking forward to introducing more structured and informative learning experiences, including floristry skills courses and DIY wedding flower workshops.

With this next chapter in mind, I'm wondering whether the name should evolve too.

Some possibilities I've been considering are:
🌿 The Northern Flower Studio
🌿 The Northern Flower Studios
🌿 Northern Flower Studios

Or perhaps The Northern Flower Garden still feels exactly right?

I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Many of you have been part of this journey for a long time, and your opinions really do matter.

So... what do you think? Should we keep our much-loved name, or is it time for something new? ✨

🌿 What's flowering in your garden at the moment?

One of the loveliest things about running workshops is meeting fellow flower lovers and hearing all about their gardens. I was chatting to one of the ladies at my workshop last week, and she was telling me about all the beautiful things she has growing at home. It got me thinking about what's flowering in my own garden right now...

At the moment, I'm enjoying:

🌹 Roses – always a favourite and such an inspiration for my floristry.
🌸 Sweet William – full of colour and that wonderful cottage garden charm.
🌼 Pansies – small but mighty, and still putting on a cheerful display.
🌿 And my hydrangeas are just about to pop... I can't wait!

There's something so special about seeing the garden change week by week through the seasons. No matter how small the space, there's always something new to enjoy.

I'd love to know what's flowering in your garden at the moment. Even better, share a photo in the comments – I'd love to see what you're growing! πŸŒΈπŸ’š

A huge thank you to those who joined me for our Dried Seascape Workshop at Souter Lighthouse on Saturday 🌾

We had such a lovely, relaxed morning together, spending a few hours immersed in creativity, flowers and good conversation.

Just look at these gorgeous arrangements! Each one was completely unique, and it was wonderful to see everyone's creativity shine through. ✨

A huge thank you as well to everyone at Souter Lighthouse for hosting us so warmly, as always. It's such a special place for creativity by the coast. 🌊

If this sounds like something you would enjoy, I'll be launching my autumn workshops very shortly. Think autumn wreaths, harvest-inspired designs, pumpkin flowers and all things Halloween... πŸ‚πŸŽƒ

And, excitingly, this year we're also hoping to introduce an Autumn Terrarium Workshop!
