🛍️ Pop into our Charity Shop! 🐾

If you haven't visited our pop-up charity shop at Unit 8, Abbey Wharf Market, Whitby, here's a little glimpse of what's waiting for you!

Our shelves are packed with:
📚 Books for all ages
🎬 DVDs and box sets
💿 CDs and vinyl records
🧸 Toys and games
👠 Clothing and footwear
🖼️ Pictures and homeware
💌 Greeting cards, craft items and plenty of hidden treasures

With new donations arriving all the time, no two visits are ever the same. Every purchase helps fund the rescue, rehabilitation and release of local wildlife.

We're also looking for more volunteers to help in our pop-up shop. If you enjoy meeting people and can spare a few hours a week, we'd love to hear from you. Just send us a message.

📱 MISSING PHONE – PLEASE SHARE 📱

A volunteer's Samsung phone in a blue case has gone missing at our charity shop today.

It was last seen on the counter. We've searched the shop thoroughly, including behind and under the counter, but unfortunately it hasn't been found.

If you visited the shop today and may have accidentally picked it up, or if you've found it, we'd be so grateful if you could return it or get in touch with us. There are precious personal photos and important information on the phone.

We've restocked our pop up shop with lots of new and interesting items! It's often described as a treasure trove by our lovely customers! If you'd like to visit us, we're located on Sandgate, in the Abbey Wharf market. 🙂

🐛 LIVE FOOD APPEAL 🐛

This little baby starling is one of today's newest arrivals.

Like many of the birds currently in our care, insect-eating species rely on a constant supply of live food to survive and thrive. Live mealworms, waxworms and calci worms are used every single day, and our stocks disappear incredibly quickly during the busy season.

🐦 As many of you will have seen on our page last night, bird admissions are OPEN today.

So far today we've:
📞 Taken 46 calls for rescues and advice.
🚑 Responded to 10 rescue call-outs including collections
🪺 Admitted 7 new patients.
📦 And we're expecting another 14 arrivals before the day is over.

We've also noticed a few comments recently suggesting we close at 5pm. Just to clarify, our doors have always been open until 6pm, 7 days a week.

People sometimes ask why we aren't open 24 hours a day.

The simple answer is that wildlife rescue is physically and emotionally demanding. Our team and volunteers often start early in the morning and continue well beyond our published opening hours, caring for hundreds of animals, feeding babies through the day & night, cleaning enclosures, responding to emergencies and preparing for the next day.

Having opening hours allows our team to rest, recharge and continue providing the highest standard of care. A tired team cannot give wildlife the care it deserves.

Please remember that even when our doors close, the work doesn't stop.

The previous post explains how to get to the other side of the river, as the swing bridge is unfortunately not working. We are located in the Abbey Wharf market on Sandgate, and are open until 4pm. Hope to see you today! 🙂
