Good Morning it's Saturday and the bookshop is open till 4pm.
What's new in our particular world of old books?
Things mostly stay the same... the pace of change is more glacial in regards to speed - but glaciers carve out valleys [eventually]- progressive is slow but what is left behind is different - and so we can announce a room has appeared! not out of nowhere, but unburied, rediscovered, some perhaps overlooked stock is back out into the wild and all looking for rehoming - so today there's even more to see, to temp the curious browser.

Every visit to every shop is important - so do pop in for a browse if you can when you are in town

Our local shops and services are an important part of rural communities.

From village shops and cafés to independent businesses and local services, they provide more than just somewhere to buy what we need. They can be places to meet people, have a chat and stay connected to the community around us.

This autumn, make a conscious effort to shop local, use local services and support the businesses that help our communities thrive.

Every visit can make a difference.

Good Morning it's Wednesday in Whitehaven and the bookshop is open till 4pm.
Rough Class, Schooling and Rioting - the growth of a Cumbrian Town [Cleator Moor] 1865-1905.
The flow of Irish immigrants to West Cumberland in the second half of the nineteenth century was remarkable. Many settled in the bustling iron ore mining centre of Cleator Moor. Rough Class uses entries in a school log book as prompts to explore the sometimes turbulent history of the town then.

A new week and a new window of books - a large single owner collection of Wood Carving, Wood Turning, Whittling, Stick Making etc. A huge range from Netsuke to love spoons - there's bound to be something to temp a man with a shed back into action?

Good Morning it's Saturday and the bookshop is open till 4pm.
Today is 'Bookshop Day' in the 'National Year of Reading', an excuse should one be needed to seek out and perhaps visit your local bookshop and add to your already towering tbr [to be read] pile. Browsing is free, so go on be bold, be brave, pop in - look around, look upstairs? be nosey.
We can personally say that your local bookseller will be extremely pleased to see you on any day.
