Quality Matters 🎣
I’m often asked why I don’t stock the cheapest tackle and gear on the market.
Quite simply, I don’t want to sell kids — or anyone else — cheap, unreliable, throw-away products that fail after a few uses. There’s nothing worse than seeing a young angler excited to get out fishing, only for poor-quality gear to let them down.
At Cumbria Tackle and Guns, I’d rather choose products that offer better quality, better reliability and better value. In many cases, the better-quality option actually costs less in the long run because you’re not replacing it when the cheaper alternative breaks.
I’d much rather sell you something I’m confident in and happy to put my name behind.
Buy better, fish happier, and get more for your money. 🎣

An unfortunate email from the maggot supplier, with that in mind, prices in store have had to increase.

In recent weeks, there have been some notable supply issues with live maggot across the country, and unfortunately this is still an ongoing situation.
I am expecting a delivery at some point this week, but this will depend on when my supplier is able to fulfil the order. Please don’t assume that live maggot will be in stock before making a trip, as I would hate for anyone to make a wasted journey.
I will continue to stock the freshest, best-quality maggot I can, and I appreciate your patience and understanding while these supply issues continue.

Ladies and gents,
Please think twice before buying these fishing kits from supermarkets or catalogue stores for your children. Unfortunately, many of these products are poor quality, not fit for purpose, and in some cases have even included lead shot that is illegal to use in the UK.
This isn't a post telling you not to shop at a particular retailer or to buy from me instead. It's simply advice to visit a proper tackle shop, where you'll get the right equipment and knowledgeable guidance for the type of fishing we do locally.
Starting a child off with cheap, unsuitable tackle sets them up for disappointment from the moment they arrive at the bank. The equipment is often unreliable, inappropriate for our local waters, and, as mentioned, can even contain items that shouldn't be used.
A little expert advice and the right tackle can make all the difference, giving young anglers a much better chance of enjoying their day and developing a lifelong love of fishing.

Please could all parents make sure their children are not fishing Longlands Lake with floats, spinners, or any other coarse fishing tackle.
Longlands Lake is a fly-fishing-only fishery and is for permit holders only.
The fishery is maintained for those who have paid for a membership or day permit and who follow the rules. It isn't fair on paying anglers when others fish without permission or use methods that aren't allowed.

As for any adults, you really should know better, join the club and set the right example.

I will offer the best advice I can in store but beyond that I am at a loss, parents please keep your children on the right side of the rules and approach the club for a membership.
