Thank you to our wonderful shop volunteers, it's been a great week celebrating them!

A few other volunteers who we haven't been mentioned are Richard, Mary, Mandy, Ann, Margo and Heather G. They are a great bunch of people and we are so grateful for all the time that they give.

Please stop by and have a chat to whoever is in. 💚

Lesley has been helping in the shop for a few years. She is a quirky and friendly character and who could tell you any fact about badgers! Her passion for the community is strong which shines through on each shift when she chats to people entering the shop. Thank you Lesley!

“After retirement I wanted to become more involved in Wigtown community, meet new people and enjoy new challenges. I love feeling part of our unique local book festival and shop, with its terrific supportive team of workers and volunteers. Books and people…what could be better plus new till skills!” ~ Lesley.

Julie has voluntereed in the shop for over 2 years. She is a kind woman who shows her commitment to the festival as she makes the journey from Carlisle to our shop in Wigtown each month! Seeing her monthly means you can have a good catch up and we always look forward to seeing her. She loves being part of her choir and its great seeing snapshots of her performances. Thank you Julie!

“Wigtown is a lovely place - full of charm and welcoming. We have a great team of volunteers and festival staff and that makes volunteering feel like fun, not hard work. The visitors bring us great stories too.” ~ Julie.

Fiona has volunteered for the festival for 3 years. She has helped to fill in when we are stuck which is much appreciated. She is a positive and caring character who let her house be a hub for all volunteers during the period of the festival. She is also always on it by asking helpful questions. Thank you Fiona!

The photo below is of her (left) and recent open booker’s from Canada at Wigtown’s booktown birthday.

"It's wonderful to have the chance to make a contribution to the success of the Book Festival and to see visitors enjoying Wigtown and what we have on our doorstep". ~ Fiona.

Simon has been volunteering in the shop for nearly 3 years. He is an energy that cannot be missed, you don’t know whether he will break into song or crack a joke! He has covered many shifts when needed and we are so grateful for his time and his character. We have also now learnt that he is a poet! Thank you Simon!

“There is a book shop that sells honey
Sometimes it's thick and sometimes it's runny.
But you will find
Because they' are so kind
It's run by people for no money.

The morning sun begins to gleam
A quiet reader's dream.
Through every chapter, every quest.
Volunteering here is truly the best.” ~ Simon

Anne volunteers every Friday afternoon. Anne is an intelligent woman, she has written poetry books and is a part of a local literature group. She is a lovely person who cherishes her beautiful garden and we love how witty she is - it's great to have a giggle with her. Thank you Anne!

“I've been happy to volunteer for the Book Festival for over twenty years. It's such a great opportunity to meet other people who love reading and share with them not just a love of books, but also a love of living here in Wigtown. For the last few years, I've also been volunteering in the festival shop for half a day each week, so that's an added all year round pleasure - being surrounded by books and gifts, having time to browse - what's not to like?“ ~Anne

Dave has been a shop volunteer for around 6 years. He is a modest and kind man who goes the extra mile for people. He loves to chat, with conversations ranging from local hike information to philosophical debates. The amount of time and effort he has given to the festival is incredible, and he helps improve anything if he can. Thank you Dave!

"As I go for walks and ride my bike to keep my body fit, I volunteer for the festival to keep my brain active, and to try to help people." ~ Dave
