Black Pug Books is a sanctuary for those of us who value books as one of the greatest treasures in life. We carry a wide range of preloved books from holiday-worthy paperbacks though to rare and early editions that will delight collectors young and old. More than this, there is space to sit and drink in the ambience of a location ideally suited to the discerning reader.

To save everyone a wasted journey - not that one ever is visiting Black Pug Books (no comments thank you) - the shop will be closed this coming Saturday, 14th March, as it's my younger daughter's birthday and a family gathering is planned. Apologies but you can always pop in on Thursday or Friday to offset any disappointment.

During the excellent Dorset Art Weeks (25 May to 9 June), Black Pug Books would like to celebrate the event by offering a 25% discount on all art books priced over £10.

So don't dilly Dali, Manet bargains to be had, Vermeer pence (well, pounds).

Devoted follower(s) of Black Pug Books will remember that autumn half-term coincides with my birthday and is normally spent with the family. As this has been impossible for the last 2 years, and everything was frozen, does this mean I can deduct 2 years from my age? No, I thought probably not but worth a try....

So, reinstating this tradition, Black Pug Books will be closed 19-22 October, with apologies, but with very happy anticipation of family daftness.

It has been decided by two former work friends that a jolly is long overdue - literally fiddling while Britain burns, but hey! The only date that they both can manage is next Friday 29 July, so out of complete altruism on my part, I felt I couldn't let them down .... Black Pug Books will therefore be closed that day, and I know you will all sympathise with such a sacrifice.

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of you fantastic customers - well, friends really - who nominated me in the recent Wimborne Business Awards. I was amazed to be shortlisted and then rendered speechless (a first as anyone can testify) to actually win the Retail Shop of the Year award. I will do my very best to live up to this accolade and keep laughter, chat, tea and coffee flowing.

Shortly I will try and organise a thank-you celebration, possibly during the Folk Festival? (Helpful!) comments welcomed.

Just a heads up to the countless hordes who have put Black Pug Books as their primary destination during the Easter holiday, thereby avoiding the countless hordes going nowhere at airports. An excellent plan, but for the first time in over 2 years there's a very real possibility (now jinxed obviously) that we can all get together as a family. Therefore the shop will be closed from Thursday 14th, re-opening as usual the following Thursday 21st. Apologies to the countless hordes - or indeed the odd few - thinking of visiting.

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for their good wishes for my op, they're very much appreciated. All went really well, seriously what would we do without the NHS?! However, I was advised to rest today and as my eye is red and closed I decided the shop should close in sympathy. I'm highly confident that eye and shop will open in harmony tomorrow (Friday).
