‘If Pots Could Talk’ from ‘The Wild Potter’.
I am a little clay beaker
made from the earth
ochre, yellow and terracotta in tone
embodied with grit, powdery decayed plants
and finished with a sweet honey glaze. rim chipped and pockmarked marked as human skin
blisters and boils flake away
revealing my dusty grey interior
flecks of ash coat my surface
set-in stone by fiery embers
yet continuing to evolve in character and memory
created by a human to serve as her drinking vessel
she sips wine.
full bodied, robust
the colour of ripe blackberries
it permeates my walls and seeps into my skin
she strokes the powder from my surface . and muses
‘You came from my favourite beach
a wild place in Scotland.
where memories were made
the taste the feel
the weight of you
your colour
the texture
take me back
to that moment in time’.
stains add new memories.
as she continue to drink
