You have to be an optimist to be a gardener - you never see at RHS Chelsea, the realities of everyday battle with weeds and the slugs and snails. I seem to also have a plague of voles and mice in the veg garden, they have so far eaten 1 cauliflower, 1/2 an entire bed of cabbages, a purple sprouting - I haven’t even bothered to sow peas and who knows if the beans will be missed by them 🙄and then if that’s not enough the Terrierists go on a vole hunt and tear up a row of spinach in the process!
If these weren’t challenging enough the transformer on the electric pole in the garden started dripping oil - happily because there are always weeds to pull I noticed before the thing blew up!! At least I only lost 1/2 a bed and not half the garden and the newt filled pond was also spared 😅 but then the sun comes out, the birds sing and you watch them nest and feed their young and at least the half bed of cabbages are looking good and at least currently caterpillar free 🤞all is good xx
