📚 HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY! 📚

Today we celebrate books, our favourite characters and share the love of reading.

Reading for pleasure is in decline. Working in schools, I have seen how important reading is. Not only does it help to develop vocabulary, it also inspires those little minds and encourages their imaginations.

However you and your little ones are celebrating today, have fun! The costumes are fab but remember to pick up and share a book together! 😊📘

What is National Storytelling Week?

Throughout all of our history and across every culture, people have told each other stories for a variety of reasons – to inspire others, to share important morals and lessons or simply to pass the time. National Storytelling Week is an annual event run by the Society for Storytelling that celebrates the tradition of storytelling and aims to inspire a whole new generation of storytellers.

Finding the time to read with children can often be difficult, but National Storytelling Week provides a wonderful opportunity for you to highlight the importance of reading and storytelling. No matter whether they’re keen readers or they’re a bit more reluctant, there’s no better time to get everyone together and appreciate the magic of a great story.

How is National Storytelling Week celebrated?

During National Storytelling Week, various events are held at book clubs, schools, museums and a whole host of other venues. People might decide to celebrate in all sorts of ways – by taking part in spoken-word poetry, seeing stories come to life as plays or performances and even enjoying stories across different cultures.
