The Undoing of Violet Claybourne by Emily Critchley is the perfect book to read during a heatwave as it’s set in a snowy school holiday! In 1938 Gillian Larkin is invited to spend the school holiday at her friend’s country home. She is dazzled by life at Thornleigh Hall and Violet’s beguiling older sisters. The new Matt Haig book, The Midnight Train, does not disappoint! If your life flashed before you would you have many regrets? Wilbur boards the Midnight Train on the brink of his death and goes back to view his life as it rolls past the train window. He has lost Maggie, the love of his life and on his last day of life he has realised that she was his world. Set in Sheffield in the 1970s and 80s and also in Venice where Wilbur and Maggie spend their perfect honeymoon, this book is a love story as well as an adventure through time. Ife and Ade's wedding day is the day she's always dreamed of. Until her groom is arrested on suspicion of murder at the reception. Ade's ex, Cynthia, has been missing for months and now her body has turned up on the Dorset coast. Ade is their prime suspect. But did Ade really kiss, marry and kill?
What a wild ride! I did not expect the rollercoaster that this story took me on.
It's a very cleverly plotted, witty and fast-paced read! The suspense builds throughout the book and when the truth was revealed I had no words! It was the kind of ending you don't see coming!!
I definitely recommend this book!

Today is going to be far too hot 🥵 so if possible your best option is to find a shady spot with a good book..

We would suggest Beattie Cavendish and the White Pearl Club. You can enjoy the book (in the shade) then pop in the shop for a (free) ticket to book club and come and meet Mary-Jane Riley at 7pm on Friday 5th June at the Bell Hotel in Saxmundham. We will be chatting about her book and enjoying a relaxed evening 😀🍷📚📚
