Mary Delaney was 72 years old when she began making these botanical works from tiny pieces of tissue paper. She made 985 of them, all botanically accurate and died in 1785.

2 whole weeks of bed rest following foot surgery. Lots to do. Made myself a little bag from plant dyed and vintage fabric scraps loving the imposed rest, hours of stitching and reading and not having to go out

Looking through scraps of plant dyed and botanically printed cloth. Love the range of colours and leaf prints and memories of places and times. Putting them together into a slow stitched quilt. Love stitching in the winter evenings

Flax thread I spun at Flaxland in Stroud. Had a fantastic 2 days and loved the process. From a bundle of sticks to this. I learned so much in such a beautiful location and met some lovely folk along the way. Huge thanks Simon and Anne 🌱

A friend brought her grandma’s sewing sample book from 1904. The pieces were stitched when she was around 14 years old. Each sample was covered with tissue and labelled with the most elegant handwriting. The stitches were unbelievably tiny and exquisitely neat. An amazing testimony to the skills and resilience of “women’s work”. Very ordinary yet remarkable and quite moving. Thank you Kath Morell xx

I loved Tracy Chevalier’s novel A Single Thread about the broderers of Wi******er Cathedral and their kneelers. These are in Worcester.
They are exquisite and the levels of expertise are clear. Beautiful.
