Hello everyone, Rob here, I'm writing this from Spain, in between Tapas & Pina Coladas, such a ballache!
Picture me on a sun lounger in my budgie smugglers while you contemplate the week ahead in Worthing...

We all know Thursday is a Thing by now, just head down for the silly drinks deal where every drink bought 5-7pm get's the same one free 7-9pm. Music, Community, Board Games & Thursday fun.

Friday is the awesome Spuntaneous Live Music Jam, improvised music with an Afro, Latin, Jazz flavour... the best live music night on the South Coast, simples!

Saturday we have DJs Rob Life & Andy Higgs serving up the best in FUNK/SOUL/LATIN/BREAKS/BEATS & JAZZ... these guys are legends that have put on great nights in Brighton & London and done their 10000 hours... not to be missed!

Closing the weekend is our SUNDAY REGGAE SUNDAY session, resident Joe Miles (REGGAE DOCTORS) is joined by very special guest Harry from Buster Hifi. Expect Reggae music in all it's forms, from every decade.

Rob Life & Mr Higgs return to Spun on Saturday 12th September.
Rob runs the wicked 'Things we Like!' night at the Black Dove in Brighton while Mr Higgs is half of Mr Higgs & Mr Parker who put on the ultra-cool 'Headnod' night at The Chip Shop in Brixton.
Both legends on the vinyl DJ scene, they bring us an eclectic night of proper dance music, taking in Funk, Soul, Latin, Breaks, Beats and Jazz.

Thanks so much to everyone who came down over the Bank Holiday Weekend. It's the community that has built around Spun that is making our corner of Worthing a very special place!

We're still recovering from last week, but let's get cracking with the one ahead...

Thursday is a thing...an actual thing! Last Thursday felt like a Friday, absolutely buzzing with DJs, Newbies and Spun Regulars, Board games, Snacks, Open Decks (check with Rob) and the ridiculous drinks deal where every drink you buy 5-7pm gets you the same drink free 7-9pm.

This Friday we welcome Rich File (U.N.K.L.E / Mo Wax) to Spun...
Describing his sound as Post, Dance & Disco Punk, Rich will play records by the likes of ESG, Liquid Liquid, Can, Talking Heads, Joy Division, Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem to name but a few. 7pm-11.30pm

Saturday afternoon 2-7pm DJ Sly Martini plays a smooth & funky mix of music that takes in Jazz, Soul, Brazilian, Boogie & Disco. His sound is perfect for a few drinks in the sun.
Saturday evening we're closing the Summer (let's hope not!) with an Electric Dreams 80's Fancy Dress special! Focussing on the 12" versions where the records got a chance to breathe in a groovy way, leaning towards the synthier side of things, but still throwing in the pop bangers from each end of the decade. Matt Flinders, Andy Shaw, Rob Watson 7-11.30pm. FREE DRINK to anyone in fancy dress. A bit like a Junior Disco but with Senior People🤣

Rounding off the weekend is Glenn Fallows' (Mr Bongo/Tru Thoughts) Hello Friend Vinyl Social. Little known fact, Glenn was the first DJ to play at Spun, apart from the amazing Rob Watson of course!🍆🤣

Comedy, Live Music, a UK DJ Legend, community and DJ action...what more could you want in terms of entertainment over the Bank Holiday week/end!?

We're open from 2.30pm today & this week starts with Fusion Comedy (Tuesday) from 7pm ,with a host of local and semi-pro talent

Wednesday we're open 12-7pm.

Thursday is a Thing with music, boardgames, community and general socialising with your weekend Spun friends.
The Vinyl Decks are open on a first come first served basis.
Additionally, the icing on the Thursday cake is the absurd drinks deal... every drink 5-7pm get's the same one free 7-9pm!

Friday is the bi-weekly Spuntaneous Jam. If you don't know what this is yet then you're missing out! Afro, Latin & Funk based grooves played by a smorgasbord of musicians and co-ordinated by percussionist Sean Quinn. DJs Spun Rob, Yinka & Matt Flinders play records in between the awesome innovative live jams. A unique South Coast night! From 7pm

Saturday night we're proud to welcome DJ legend Chad Jackson to Spun.
(DMC Champion/Haçienda Resident/ 'Hear the Drummer Get Wicked')
Kicking off at 6pm, starting with DJ support from Andy Shaw (Artificial Arm) & Matt Flinders, then Chad takes over the decks at 8pm.

Every time there's 5 Sundays in a month, 5 DJs assemble to play inappropriate music for a Sunday afternoon in a record shop. 5 Go Mad... from 2pm!

Bank Holiday Monday is POP-UP! We're celebrating Pop Music in all it's forms, 50's/60's/70's/80s/90's/00's/10's/20's, but not in that order!
DJ's Wax Virgins, Pete Fij, Uncle Rob & Matt Flinders will be spinning pop bangers from 1-9pm.

Electric Dreams Saturday Sept 5th is now an 80's FANCY DRESS special...
Whether you want to dress as Adam Ant or A-Ha, MC Hammer or Miami Vice, Bananarama or Boy George, Cameo or C3 PO , Dirty Dancing or Dexy's Midnight Runners and so on.... you get the idea! Whack your shuttlecock in your tight white tennis shorts or find the largest shoulder pads known to man... and head down to Spun City for a night of 80's fun!
There will be some sort of free drink for everyone in fancy dress...

DJs Matt Flinders (Pancake), Andy Shaw & Rob Watson will be digging out the best in 80's 12" bangers, belters & groovers!

MASSIVE DJ ANNOUNCEMENT!

Rich File (U.N.K.L.E / Mo Wax), is playing Spun on Friday 4th September.
Describing his sound as Post, Dance & Disco Punk, Rich will play records by the likes of ESG, Liquid Liquid, Can, Talking Heads, Joy Division, Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem to name but a few.

Here's some of his bio, it makes for an interesting read...

"I partnered James Lavelle in U.N.K.L.E. between 1999 and 2008. Throughout this period I co-wrote and produced songs with many of my musical hero’s including Brian Eno, Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Keith Flint (The Prodigy), Ian Brown (The Stone Roses), 3D (Massive Attack) and Ian Astbury (The Cult). I also got to remix some of my favourite bands including Queens Of The Stone Age, DJ Shadow, Depeche Mode, The Prodigy, Metallica, Blur and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant. Our atmospheric sound lead to many of our songs being licensed in films, tv shows, adverts and video games, and in 1999, in collaboration with the Mo’Wax band South, we wrote the original score for Jonathan Glazer's cult classic, Sexy Beast.

U.N.K.L.E. SOUNDS was the DJ'centric, more playful incarnation of UNKLE. We simply played the music we loved, regardless of it's genre or release date, and if it wasn't made for the club, we just created an edit in the studio that was! We took this project worldwide, playing DJ sets based around the edits, mash-ups and remixes that we'd created. The positive reaction lead to us producing two mix-tapes - Do Androids Dream Of Electric Beats and Edit Music For A Film - showcasing all the work from this period. U.N.K.L.E. SOUNDS culminated in a residency at seminal London night club Fabric, between 2000 and 2003, slap bang in the middle of the club's wonder years!"
