Abode Above

Abode Above Abode Above - no ordinary place! Create your style. Linger a while to browse the mass of items from I'm Daphne Roberts and here's my tale.

I had breast cancer last year, 2016, had an op, coped with the treatment and went back to work after just two weeks off. Then it hit me ... the fact that we're only here for so long and that 'time allowance' reduces daily. So here's my dream ... Abode Above: no ordinary place! A not-very-large shop full of stuff that I love: wooden things, painted pieces, metal shiny objects, buttons, beads, cloth

es to create an individual style (always pre-loved), jewellery, handbags and trunks, mirrors and pics ... the list goes on. There will be stand-out pieces from talented local artists, plus workshops, taster sessions, gift vouchers and a loyalty scheme. All of this is in the centre of town, with parking nearby, creating a new destination - albeit a small one (for now)
Please come and visit ... once it's open!

You may have noticed a sneaky little addition to the top banner in the form of a snazzy little logo.

This Saturday an amazing event is taking place on Queen's square to showcase all that Wrexham has to offer in the form of Independent traders and there may be a quite a lot more than you expect - "nothing in Wrexham" - pah! Meet the faces and behind the businesses and what they have to offer.

There's also information packs and a Discover Wrexham Independent Traders map.

A lot of passion and organisation has gone on to get this event off the ground and all those involved have sweat blood and tears to get it ready.

Unfortunately Abode Above won't be at the event - imagine even moving a sample of what's in the shop and paint, well would need a truck.

The shop will be open - so first port of call go visit the market, spend some time there to see what Wrexham has to offer. If you then have time if you come to the shop, show us the map then you'll get a discount on anything you purchase - not quite decided how much just yet, I'll probably make it up..

That's all for now - hope to see lots of you in the town this weekend.

Opening Hours

At the moment Abode Above's opening hours are
Saturdays: 10 am to 3pm
Sundays: Midday to 3pm

If you require Frenchic any other day then if you drop us a message via the Message button at the top of the page or message on 07813 041705. We can arrange to meet at the shop if you want to browse the range or if you know what you want then can arrange payment, pickup / delivery within a 3 mile radius of the shop.

If it's the Wall Paints you are after then as you know there are so many colours available it would be impossible to stock them all at the shop - so hopefully this weekend will have the full range in the form of Peel and Stick Paint samples (they are on route) - so you can browse through the myriad of colours in the flesh so to speak. I can place an order and you will get it the very next day in most cases - time permitting.

That's all for now :)

Remember Abode Above is open today (Sunday 16th) until 3pm for all your Frenchic needs, along with anything else you need.

The shelves now all arranged neatly alphabetically

It’s also your last chance to get 9% off - so the end of the odd prices ending in 8 or 9 - at least my brain will get a rest from the calculations. 🤣

So come on down!

(Edited to add day just in case anyone thinks it a different day)

As you may, or may not, be aware, today would have been Daphne's birthday.
Happy Birthday Sweetheart x

She was not one for big celebrations, just happy to have a cup of tea with a big slice of jam and sponge party cake covered in icing. Surprising that she never went for chocolate after her love of chocolate.

Anyway, as this is a second celebration in a week after the anniversary of Abode Above, the anniversary offer will be extended for one final weekend this weekend - so 9% off any Frenchic products will still apply.

The gaps have been filled and can now happily say that all colours and sizes of both Al Fresco and Lazy Range are in stock, along with a full range of brushes - well some are still in boxes ready to put out on the shelves, but you know what I mean :) There's also all other other Frenchic products too!

So now is your chance to stock up before the prices return to normal - don't miss out.

Hope to see you this weekend (yes including Sunday) :)

Thanks to all that came in today to take advantage of the discounts available on Frenchic. Sorry for the delay on occasions 9% means some odd numbers so made it a bit harder adding them up :)

To those that missed it, remember Abode Above is open tomorrow Sunday (9th) between midday and 3pm where the same offer applies - 9% off Frenchic products. The shelves have been replenished so hopefully will have what you need.

Thanks :)

It's the 5th August and today marks the 9th anniversary since Abode Above opened.

Daphne followed her dream to work for herself and open a shop. She was buoyed on by her love of Frenchic Paint, which was the main driver in opening, we worked through the night to open in time for that Saturday.

So to mark the occasion, this weekend there will be a 9% discount on all Frenchic products - my brain may melt with the calculations but am sure my trusty little spreadsheet can work it out.

The stock is being replenished so there should be any colours you need in the Al Fresco range with the odd gap in Lazy, and all the brushes you will ever need.

That's not all - there will be a one-off sale on non-Frenchic, where you set the price, but be reasonable, if I pull a funny face then you know that you've just gone that little bit too far (e.g. £10 is not a good offer for a 18 piece or more Prince Albert Tea Set).
There will be some exclusions (as with all good sales), any of Daphne's original artwork, some of her other bits & pieces left in situ and items from JP Woodcraft for example - small discounts will be available though.
Hopefully that may clear a bit of space so we can bring some things in from the mythical 40ft container at some point - yes it really exists.

The keen of eye of you out there will have noticed I said "weekend" - so on Sunday, as a sort of trial, the shop will be open between Midday and 3pm - so if you can't make Saturday then feel free to pop down on Sunday.

Well that's enough from me - hope to see you this weekend :)

Talking of Frenchic, HQ have put together this helpful guide on outdoor painting.

OK last week may have been a bit too hot to be out in the sun painting, but now with the weather returning to semi-normality it may be a great opportunity to jazz up your tired looking outdoor furniture / surroundings, add some extra colour to you outdoor space.

You can read their blog below
https://frenchicpaint.co.uk/blogs/frenchic-experts-blog/guide-to-outdoor-painting

Along with some helpful slides for some pointers.

Enjoy!

Saturday 4th July

Sorry for the inconvenience but we shall be closed this Saturday (4th July). Blame my mum for having a birthday that weekend 😀

We will re-open again on the 11th July during the normal hours of 10 to 3pm (ish), was actually 3:45 this weekend.

Should you require any Frenchic paint during this time, please message us via messenger (button should be at the top of the page) and we will try to work something out. I have a full stock list here of what's there or not so, bollards permitting, we can arrange something.

Talking of Frenchic, there's been a bit of a tidy up with the shelves, more shelf space, more browsing space and although the ordering is not totally alphabetical yet, should be able to find things a little more easily, so that should help.

Thanks all.

Some sad(ish) but not totally unexpected news from the arcade today.

The final remaining lanterns have bitten the dust. With their propensity to dive-bomb, disintegrate at random and their continued sorry state, it was time for them to go.

They first appeared on the 29th April 2019, thanks to an idea cooked up between Wayne and Daphne.
They become award winning, heavily photographed and appearing on TV around the world (Well they became a "Disney princess" for a few seconds in a clip on Welcome To Wrexham) .

They weren't expected to last this long, surviving a full 7 and a bit years in fact. Slowly they disappeared but a few hung around.

Will they be replaced? Who knows, watch this space as they say, the Wisteria (or listeria which I randomly called it to Daphne), lights, balloons and the odd snowflake remain.

Here are some before and after photos from today and some old photos with them in their full pomp and colour.

Thank you for your service lanterns 😆
