I had breast cancer last year, 2016, had an op, coped with the treatment and went back to work after just two weeks off. Then it hit me ... the fact that we're only here for so long and that 'time allowance' reduces daily. So here's my dream ... Abode Above: no ordinary place! A not-very-large shop full of stuff that I love: wooden things, painted pieces, metal shiny objects, buttons, beads, cloth

es to create an individual style (always pre-loved), jewellery, handbags and trunks, mirrors and pics ... the list goes on. There will be stand-out pieces from talented local artists, plus workshops, taster sessions, gift vouchers and a loyalty scheme. All of this is in the centre of town, with parking nearby, creating a new destination - albeit a small one (for now)

Thank you to all that turned up today for the re-opening of Abode Above.

Yes my knowledge of Frenchic is basically non-existant in comparison to Daphne, I tried. It was great to see so many people looking at the range of paint in stock and also giving some great memories of the advice and knowledge that she provided to all. It's a learning curve I aim to overcome - I'll get there.

Also not forgetting the non-Frenchic customers along with some familiar faces there helping support the shop - it is very much appreciated.

Thanks also to Harri for helping out and great to see Tomos, Hannah and the girls, popping in to give support.

Time for an Abode Above announcement

We shall be opening this Saturday between 10am and 3pm where we will attempt to continue Daphne's legacy of Abode Above

The Mega Clearance Sale that she started will continue as before, we will try to clear some space to start bringing in some of the other stock that is sat in the wings / container.

We can never replace Daphne in her chattiness or her immense knowledge of Frenchic (that's going to take a while to get to even a fraction of her knowledge) - but we shall try.

Then there's the till and payments - wowsers.

So please bear with us while we enter a whole new world.

Thanks once again for you words of condolences, patience and thoughts during these sad times.

Due to work commitments, for the coming weeks it will be just Saturday opening for now.

We would like to share our gratitude and appreciation for all of those turning up for Daphne's service yesterday along with those who watched the service online and on-demand (along with the lovely comments on there).

We would also like to share our heartfelt thanks to those who patiently lined the sides of the High Street for her final journey passing through. One last battle with the illustrious bollards so fitting really.

Thanks also to those who have kindly donated to the worthy charities, that Daphne so loved, during this time.

It has been a rough time for us all and we appreciate all the kind words, condolences, support and more through the past few weeks, it really has helped and been appreciated.

She will be forever in our hearts and truly remembered forever.

Final bits and pieces for Daphne's farewell.

As the 1st of June approaches for Daphne's funeral we can now confirm some final information for the day.

Daphne will be taking one final journey along Wrexham High Street sometime between 1:05pm and 1:15pm on route to the crematorium.
So for anyone who is not able to attend please feel free to pay your respects as she passes through.

The main funeral service will commence at 1:30pm, again for anyone unable to attend, whether local or her many friends around the world, there will be a live stream of the service available at https://evt.live/robertsbros-334dar260
This will also be available to watch, if you so wish, to catch up later.

Remember for those attending, it doesn't have to be formal attire, just what you feel comfortable in and how she would remember you.

Following the service we will be convening to Saith Seren, 18 Chester St, Wrexham LL13 8BG - with parking available in both the nearby Tŷ Pawb, Library and Waterworld car parks.
This will be from approximately 2:30 / 2:45pm onwards, with some lovely nibbles available, so please pop by to join us celebrating Daphne's fun, colourful & quirky life.

We are hoping to give her the send-off she well and truly deserves and show how much she meant to us all.

We are still utterly devastated and shocked to be writing these words, following her passing on the 26th April.

Daphne's funeral will be taking place at Pentre Bychan Crematorium on Monday 1st June 2026 at 1:30 pm. All are welcome. Dress code is however she would remember you, or whatever feels appropriate remember she had her own quirky, colourful style.

As you may know, she was a big animal lover and took in many waifs and strays over the years, so in lieu of flowers, donations will be shared between Ark Angels 1177664 and Candy and Tibby Trust should you wish to give.

Post‑funeral reception details will follow at a later point.

Last Monday (20th April), Daphne was her usual vibrant self - full of life, chatting with customers, and looking forward to new opportunities.

However, that same evening she suffered a devastating medical event that changed her family’s lives forever.

True to her character, she fought against impossible odds, right up until the very end. Sadly, Daphne passed away on Sunday afternoon (26th April).

We would like to thank every person who has supported Abode Above since 2017 - customers, fellow shopkeepers, and everyone in between.

Her battle with cancer in 2016 pushed her to pursue her long-held dream: moving from market trading to owning her own shop and working for herself. She poured 100% of herself into it, overcoming challenges outside her control along the way and in the meanttime proudly building the Frenchic brand in the Wrexham area with her knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm.

Understandably, Abode Above will be closed for the foreseeable future while her family decides on the next steps regarding the business.

We will update you in due course, but for now, thank you - each and every one of you - for helping her fulfil her dream.

We will all love and miss her forever and one thing is for certain; she will never be forgotten.

MEGA clear out clearance sale starts tomorrow, Wednesday 8th April at 11am to 2pm at Abode Above,in Central Arcade, Wrexham

Everything will be discounted: some items majorly reduced - clothing, furniture items, many metres/yards of new fabric, vintage linen and plenty of 'different' things. Even a smaller discount below RRP on Frenchic Paint.
If price is unclear, please ask.
MEGA sale will continue on Saturday and then from next week Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am to2pm, but I'll be adding more hours and days - and stock - as I'm able.
Happy to bundle stuff for you, but please avoid the phrase "I'll give you" because it's just rude.
