Passionate artist (both visual and auditory) and scientist, I began to pursue the world of watercolour and mixed media, as a way to relax and express the natural world around me. As a passionate artist (both visual and auditory) and scientist, I began to pursue the world of watercolour and mixed media, as a way to relax and express the natural world around me. I released my first children’s book,

“Macie Mouse and the Green Cellar Door”, which I wrote and illustrated digitally, and book of of poetry and lyrics, “Creative Expression” in 2016 as a mindful crafting experience. I continued to create over the next several years, experimenting with all types of media but couldn’t really find that, “tone” to express myself fully until I discovered watercolours and mixing them with other media to experiment and create ATC’s, still-life watercolours and mixed media art combined with poetic devices to stimulate and transcend the subjects inner values onto, and into, the viewer. I would have never described myself as a, “painter” or “artist” as such and my “go-to” in my youth was always music and singing. I learned instruments mainly by ear from a very early age; developing skills on the saxophone and violin, but when I needed to rise above the noise it was always singing, writing songs/poems or making things from anything I could scavenge, or grow, to help me feel like I was meant to be part of this world. My upbringing was tough. I did not come from a wealthy background and pursuing a career in any of the artistic fields seemed unimaginable. I would spend my days as a youth climbing trees, building dens, reading wildlife books, go-karting down the street made from old pram wheels and anything considered rubbish then delving into nightlife, ecology and travel as I matured. This allowed me to experience life with spontaneity, kicking down walls and develop an admiration for the varieties of life around me. I worked in many different fields including singing, finance, ecology and eventually teaching alongside being a mum. My longing for pushing creative boundaries allowed me to meet, collaborate and create with some amazing people along the way, including my now husband Aaron Troughton who helped me to realise my true element. As an artist, I try to project a story from the subject rather than give a “perfect” replication. My journey taught me the importance of perseverance, creativity, and staying true to one’s unique vision.

Today's set is a shimmering safari of life featuring quotes from "The Future Is Not For Us" by Ronald Bottrall, circa 1922-1934.
Not just thrown together...

People often criticise abstract art or abstract ideas because they can seem simple, messy, or difficult to understand. What looks like a collection of random elements to one person can hold an entire story for someone else. I thought I'd share a little of the thinking behind this set to show how these miniature pieces become visual stories.

At first glance, the cards may appear quite simple, but they were designed to reflect the beautiful messiness of life. Through subtle placements of colour, shape, texture, and poetry, I wanted to create a narrative that people could connect with in their own way.

Each character shares a common thread, represented by the blue circle that echoes an item of clothing on each figure. At the same time, each retains their individuality through the coloured cotton details (the white shirt of the first figure, the soft pink hair of the second, and the pale blouse of the third are all reflected in the fibres surrounding them.)

The earthy camel background speaks to our shared human experience, while the delicate pink spirals hint at life's winding paths and unseen connections. Even the tangled cotton has a purpose; representing the twists, uncertainties, and overlapping stories that shape who we become.

Together with Bottrall's words, these layers of paper, paint, thread, and symbolism create a larger story. One that isn't meant to be interpreted in a single way, but discovered differently by everyone who sees it.

Take from this what you will! Either way, I hope you have a great messy day! 😜

It really has been too long. I know this isn't a watercolour but I promise they will return with vengeance 😆 I really needed to get these ideas out and find ATCs a great way to quickly communicate my intentions of a much larger process. There are a few very different mediums and styles to come all to demonstrate the change and style of my mood 😉 This art poetry is deeply personal, using geometric shapes carefully placed and coloured to represent this truly exposing piece.
Accept & Acknowledge
I accept
The rebounding echoes rippling with truth
The menacing influences dominating youth

I acknowledge
The pressure of violent energy
The fractured memories shaping my identity

I accept
The persistent presence of doubt
The eternal awareness; a sedimented shout

I acknowledge
The scars and layers I create
The core of the prison softly closed at the gate

I ascend and I take action
The past may not simply be erased
It will not dominate nor be forgotten
I remain and grow with this change

Just a quick little announcement - the second act of whispers of nature is now available to view/listen to on my website. In all honesty, I do need to redo the recordings but I am also aware how long it has been promised to you all. There is a synopsis for both acts on the main page if you would like to read what each is about, otherwise, there is a link below that will take you to the artwork and poetry meant to be read in order to unveil the story of the hare. Just in time for spring! 🌼🌱 🙂 Enjoy. https://www.linda-marieart.co.uk/whispers-of-nature-vol-2

A Little Update From Me (I know it's been a while sorry)…

After much careful consideration, I’ve decided to close my gallery space and return my shop fully online, alongside the usual exhibitions and periodic fairs.

This feels like the right step forward as I begin an exciting new chapter having secured a position back in Manchester in Further Education, which has been a long-held ambition of mine. Education and creativity have always been my two great passions, and I’m looking forward to building a life that balances both.

Please don’t worry. This absolutely does not mean I’m stepping away from my art. Far from it! It simply means I’ll be reorganising things behind the scenes to make sure I can give my energy to both teaching and creating in a sustainable way.

I know I’ve been a little quiet recently (an awful bout of flu didn’t help!), but I’ll be updating my website very soon. The latest art and poetry collection is written and ready to go. It just needs uploading. You’ll still be able to purchase collections through the website, and as always, my wonderful collectors and clients — old and new — can reach me through the usual channels.

I’ll also have prints from the third collection available online shortly, which I’m really excited to share with you.

Thank you so much for your continued support and patience while I juggle my many “eggs in baskets”! I’m looking forward to sharing this next chapter with you all.

Watch this space — updates coming soon. Promise.

Promises, promises, promises 🙏
I know, it’s been far too long! I keep promising to get the second act up on the website for you to enjoy, and I’m really hoping my dear web manager (aka the husband, Aaron Troughton cheeky prompt 😉) will work his magic very soon.
The good news? Everything is recorded and ready to go, so fingers crossed it won’t be long now 🤞
In the meantime, a little update as I’ve been a bit quiet lately. We’ve had so much happening behind the scenes. Lots of changes on the way, and even a move, as the gallery location needed to change!
More updates coming soon, and you can still visit the website to view and purchase from the collections. And if you’re looking for ideas on how to display poetry alongside artwork, here’s a set of limited edition prints of the main protagonist, proudly displayed together with their stories 🙂

Book recommendation for artists, designers, etc. I purchased this book back in the summer and have to say it's played an incredible part of my colour selections in my watercolour and mixed media pieces, helping significantly with mood choices and representation. As all those who follow/have met me know; I choose subjects depending on the story I am telling and the colours, be them subtly placed in the background, or part of the main subject, are intended to convey that emotion. This book is all about linking those colours with varying emotions with great psychological depth. I have really enjoyed it and would like to recommend this to other artists out there looking for inspiration for artistic emotional expression and representation. Enjoy! 😊
