NEXT BEGINNER COURSE NOW BOOKING!

Inspired by The Great British Sewing Bee?
Would you like to learn to sew?

Do you have a sewing machine but don't know how to use it? Or would you like to try out a new hobby or craft?

Our next Beginner sewing course will be on Tuesday evenings 6.30-8.30pm. Dates: September 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd.

Our beginner's sewing course is lots of fun, and we have run it multiple times over the last few years. We will take you from a total beginner and help you learn to use a sewing machine, enabling you to produce three or four projects over the course. We will make a drawstring bag, a cushion, and a fully lined zipped make-up pouch, and maybe another project depending on time.

You will be surprised at how much you can achieve in just a few weeks. Jo, our teacher, has years of sewing experience behind her and is passionate about sharing her love of sewing with others. She is also very calm, patient, and encouraging. We guarantee this course will be lots of fun and you will be proud of what you achieve.

We have sewing machines you can use if you don’t have one.

The price is £80 for 4 weeks. Options available to purchase a pack of fabric and haberdashery needed for the course at £20 and/or a tool kit for £5. A non-refundable deposit of £30 required on booking to secure a place. Please message the page for more details or to reserve a place, or telephone 01978 313444 and ask for Jo.

🪡Wrexham Library Quilt Fest
The Wrexham Art Treasures Exhibition of 1876 first revealed to the world our astonishing "Wonder Quilt of Wrexham". To celebrate the 150th anniversary, Wrexham Library will be hosting its own three-day festival on 9th, 10th and 11th July. Over the three days, there will be a display, of a quarter-scale replica of the original Wonder Quilt; the Adam Jones Quilt (courtesy of Tŷ Pawb); the Dee Valley Quilt (courtesy of Ysgol Froncysyllte), textile/quilting art from Rhosddu Primary and Barker’s Lane schools and the Drawing Board’s 50-panel patchwork.

📆On Thursday 9th July 2.00-3.00pm celebrated textile artist, Bethan Hughes, will talk about the place of quilting in a modern world.

👉Artist Bethan M. Hughes works in textiles and quiltmaking. She will share her creative practice which explores creating a voice for expression, identity, and democracy, encouraging audiences to consider campaigning, petitioning, suffrage, the right to vote, and the impact of voting. Her work, rooted in the rich heritage of traditional Welsh quilt designs, is a contemporary medium for conversations about our future. Bethan is Associate Artist at Ruthin Craft Centre.

‼These are free events, but you must reserve your place for the talk by Bethan M Hughes. Contact the library on 01978 292090 | [email protected]

Sometimes I think it’s nice to see our fabrics made up. It can be hard to visualise what that bolt of fabric looks like on the body.

Over on Instagram at the moment there is the Sew Frugal challenge which I have entered with this dress made in our navy and gold jersey. For this challenge you use a free pattern and either fabric from your stash or repurposed fabric as long as you already own it.

This fabric has been in my stash since before Christmas and the pattern is the free Brise Dress from Core Patterns.

Navigating the offering of free patterns can be tricky as some are really not drafted well, but the company behind this one are great.

We still have some of this fabric in stock. It is jersey, but don’t let that put you off. I’m really happy to give you tips that will help you succeed.

*Thanks! I made it 🥰*

I am so proud of our learners on our recent dressmaking course! They made the Friday Pattern Company Sagebrush Top which is perfect for the summer.

There was a lot of gathering, some unpicking, and some fabric misbehaving but everyone left with a really wearable blouse to be proud of.

All of these fabrics are currently instore and would make lovely summer tops.

Why not show our learners some love in the comments? I think they did so well!! 🙌👏❤️

Our Bestie bag class was a real success. The Bestie bag is right on trend and is the perfect casual handbag. It has 3 pockets on the inside and we added a little key-holding chain to the inside. Everyone learnt how to follow the pattern, construct the bag , add bag hardware and webbing.
It’s fair to say they didn’t find it all that easy at times but everyone left with a really well made bag. We used our teal denim, teal and purple corduroy and our Fabric Godmother ace animal print denim and Yoko denim. Lining was either plain craft cotton, or one of our dressmaking cottons. They used zipper by the yard, metal ‘handmade’ labels, webbing, sliders and strap end caps - all in matching finishes of course! Well done everyone! (I made another one too!)
