PSA for September starter mums: school uniform doesn’t automatically mean her personality has to clock out at registration. 🤭💖

Starting school is a BIG deal. New classroom, new routines, new grown-ups, new rules, new emotions… and suddenly your little princess who lives in twirly dresses and sparkle is being introduced to practical cardigan energy. 😅

Which is exactly why I’m here to gently point out something a lot of first-time school mums don’t realise: every school makes their own dress code rules. Some are stricter, some just ask for school colours, some are surprisingly relaxed about hair accessories… but because of those differences, it is always worth checking before you assume supermarket gingham is your only option.

Because if your glitter-loving girl can keep a tiny bit of HER in the mix? A sparkly bow in school colours can do more than just match the uniform. It can make getting ready feel exciting, bring a little princess confidence to a very big milestone, and send her marching through those school gates feeling just a bit braver, a bit more special, and very much herself. 👑✨

Were you wondering if gingham is an actual requirement, or did you just accept it must be since everyone else is picking it? 👇

Who knew there was a left clip and a right clip? Or that a grown adult could lose sleep over what a thank you card should say? 🙈

But this is just the bread and butter of everyday life as a bowmaker: I overthink tiny details so you don’t have to. Sometimes because it genuinely matters. Sometimes because my brain cells are turning into glitter. ✨

What's your take? Thoughtful… or completely unhinged? Be honest with me... 😅💖

It’s probably complete bo****ks, but personally, I’m not willing to take the risk. 🦄😭

Because what exactly are we saving the pretty bows for? A royal banquet? A meeting with the Prime Minister? The Met Gala for Reception class? 🤭🎀

Meanwhile, your little girl is out here wanting to wear the sparkliest thing she owns just to go feed ducks at the park or while she’s tackling phonics on the classroom carpet. And I think that level of commitment to glamour deserves support. 👑

The funny thing is, glitter bows actually work hardest on ordinary days. They turn “we’re running late” ponytails into cute hairstyles. They rescue slightly wonky pigtails. They make quick hair look intentional. They’re basically tiny sparkly mood boosters clipped onto her head. ✨

So no, I don’t believe bows should sit in a drawer waiting for “best.” If she loves them now, let her wear them now. Childhood is short. The sparkle era deserves to be enjoyed in full. 💖

Do you believe sparkle is only for Christmas and birthdays? Or would you let her wear glitter bows for a Tesco grocery trip on a regular Tuesday? Let me know in the comments.👇

If this is your first school uniform rodeo, it’s very easy to assume the supermarket hair accessory aisle knows something you don’t. You see the gingham multipacks, you see everyone picking gingham… and suddenly it feels less like a style choice and more like a legal requirement. 😅

But here’s the little loophole many Reception mums don’t realise exists: lots of schools actually say things like school colours, practical, or modest. Not every school allows sparkle, absolutely. Some are stricter than others. But enough schools do that checking the actual handbook is genuinely worth five minutes of your time before you buy bows she doesn’t even like.

Because if her school is happy with sparkle in uniform colours? Congratulations. You may be one of the lucky mums who can swap supermarket gingham for something that actually makes your little girl excited to put her uniform on. ✨👑

Quick poll… Would gingham be your first choice if there were no uniforms and no rules at all? I’m curious... 💬👇

Have you ever wondered why most school accessories are gingham? In my opinion, there’s no good reason at all!

Gingham is simply the traditional choice for school uniforms, mostly due to the historical affordability and practicality of the pattern. But here is the secret: most schools don’t actually require hair accessories to be a specific pattern. A lot of girl mums look around the pick-up queue, see a sea of gingham, and naturally assume that’s just the law of the land…

But here’s the thing: every school is different.

Some want practical. Some want modest. Some ask for specific colours, and some are stricter than others… and yes, some schools are definitely not sparkle-friendly! I even heard of some that banned bows all together… 😭

But it’s because the rules vary so much, it’s worth checking the actual policy before automatically settling for the “everyone else does gingham” route.

Because if your little girl is firmly in her sparkle era, wearing a sparkly bow in school colours can be a total game-changer. Suddenly, getting ready feels exciting, the uniform battle softens, and she’s marching through the school gates with the confidence of royalty. 👑🎀

So tell me… what’s the verdict at your school? Team Glitter-Friendly, Team Gingham, or no bows allowed at all? Let’s compare notes in the comments! 💬👇

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but glitter bows and glitter chaos are not the same thing! ✨😅

I completely understand your hesitation. Your daughter spots something sparkly and instantly needs it in her life, while your brain immediately flashes back to that one traumatic craft incident involving glitter everywhere and a clean-up operation that lasted three working days (and was still mostly unsuccessful).

But before you write off glitter bows completely, allow me to perform my deeply professional and highly sophisticated toothbrush test! 🪥

This is me making sure she gets all the twirl-worthy princess energy she could possibly want, without you finding mysterious glitter particles in your house until 2032.

Are my bows 100% shed-proof? Well, not if you plan on brushing them twice a day! 😅

But if you watched until the end, hopefully your inner sceptic has officially been reassured.

Send this to a mum who needs to hear that not all glitter is messy! 🙌
