What kind of books will we be reading for The Big Book Group?
Thank you for all the love on our post about our newest book group! We had an amazing response to Em’s video and we’re so excited for the first session at the end of the month. In case you’re wondering what kind of books we’ll be reading and discussing, here’s a look at the first two choices:
AUGUST’S PICK
Whale fall is a devastating historical fiction by Elizabeth O’Connor. On an isolated island off the coast of Wales, eighteen-year-old Manod struggles to consolidate her conflicting desire of a different life elsewhere and the connection she has to her family and community. When a whale washes ashore, it catches the attention of two engmatic English anthropologists, and Manod becomes entangled in their strange relationship and motives as she acts as translator. A short, punchy novel full of intriguing characters and compelling narratives.
NOVEMBER’S PICK
Edith Holler by Edward Carey is a modern fable set in our very own city of Norwich, albeit we are taking a trip back to the early 20th century. Edith spends her days at the peculiar Holler theatre, and as her imagination runs wild while writing a play about the strange goings-on in the city, the lines between performance and reality start to blur. A wonderfully bizarre novel only made better by Carey’s signature illustrations.
