You’re probably already familiar with Mitch’s fantastic selection of children’s fiction, which blend expansive subjects such as environmentalism and human rights with personal narratives of courage, ambition and friendship. Mitch’s debut, Kick, follows our intrepid protagonist Budi, who dreams of a life playing for his favourite football team away from the harsh realities of his life in Jakarta. In Strike, we return to the familiarly complicated world of football but in an entirely new adventure 10 years later, now following teenager Owen as he navigates his ambition to become a professional footballer while confronting the darker corners propping up the industry. You can read Strike independently from Kick, but fans of Kick will be excited to encounter a few familiar faces in the story…
We’ve been huge fans of Mitch for a long time, and it was lovely to have him in the bookshop to film a video in anticipation of Strike’s release. Mitch will be doing several author talks at local schools in the next couple of weeks, but if you’re not able to see him at one of those, we have plenty of copies of Strike and Mitch’s other titles available to purchase in the bookshop now!
