Yarm High Street, 1902

Before Cartmell Electrics, the property at 102 High Street was home to a plumber/glazier shop called 'Tebbs', managed by William Reed Tebbs and his wife Mary Elizabeth. By 1920, Oswald Cuthbert Cartmell had taken over and opened a cycle shop called Chapman & Cartmell, which continued until 1948 when his son Keith Cartmell took over the business and launched the electrical shop we know today. Now, the business is operated by his son, Paul Cartmell.

The Ketton Ox coaching inn located at 98-100 High Street holds the title of Yarm’s oldest pub, boasting a history of over 400 years. Back in 1902, the proprietors were George Coltman and his wife Ana.
