Could you be a food factory superstar?

In just over a week our schools program at York Food and Drink Festival starts - delivering food education to over 1000 York school children completely free!

We love being part of this program but the Food Festival team need more support to deliver this - do get in touch with the team if you have a week on your hands and want to do something incredibly fun!

7 days to go until the Food Factory in St Sampson's Centre where you can learn how to cook items like bread and pasta and the different ways of fermentation. You can also volunteer to help out!

It’s just 1 week to go until one of our favourite weeks of the year - the York Food and Drink Festival is back and we’ve got our own special additions to the program.

The Making of Drinking Chocolate

Join us at York Cocoa Works at 3.30pm on a tour through the history of drinking chocolate from its South American roots to its arrival in Europe, Georgian drinking traditions through to manufacturing in York and our own Hot Chocolate we craft at York Cocoa Works today.

It’s new term time in our Cocoa and Chocolate Learning Centre at York Cocoa Works and this weekend we have our Masterclass and Learning Program starting anew!

Saturday 12th September:
Chocolate Tempering Masterclass
Perfect for chocolate enthusiasts or those with baking experience who want to learn the process behind the mastering of tempering methods - we’ll be exploring the different ways of tempering, marble slab, seeding and our favourite, famed hair-dryer method!

Working with chocolate doesn’t have to be scary - we pull the process apart so you can fully understand what’s happening when tempering chocolate to master the methods and materials you use at home or in your own workspace.

This masterclass is a key starter for those who’ve struggled or got frustrated tempering or been put off playing with chocolate in the past!

No experience is necessary in our masterclasses but a love of chocolate is a must!

Have you met Mary?

Anyone else treat their machines like they’re one of the team?

Mary was our first chocolate making purchase and endeavour into becoming chocolate makers - she’s been part of the team for 13 years and we love her dearly!

Every bar or milk chocolate based product is made in Mary!

Some of the team will tell you her name is because she makes our dairy chocolate!

I’ll affectionately tell you it’s in tribute to Mary Tuke - big chocolate making inspiration for us based in York!

But the real reason?

Having spent an eye-watering amount of money and time planning, designing, learning and building our chocolate Manufactory we spent the first few months with everything breaking - literally everything!

Except Mary!

Mary’s big wheels kept on turning! And so she kept on rolling for us and kept us going through quite a few chocolate making challenges!

Bless her Proud Mary! No rest for you, she’s been making more milk chocolate today -
Christmas is coming!!!
