Set in the historical city of York, tucked away off Market Street, you will find York’s longest established one stop sewing shop. Gillies stocks a colourful array of specialist fabrics and trims for dressmaking, tailoring, special occasion wear, patchwork & quilting, creative textiles, embroidery and for many other sewing projects. They also sell the latest sewing machines, overlockers and embroi

We would like you to start your sewing journey of 2026 without any sewing issues.
Just so you know, we’re always here to help.🤩

Would you like an overlocker and don’t know where to start?🫣
Have you got an overlocker and you struggle to thread it? 😔
Does your thread break, just after spending ages tying on new thread colours?😖
Are you frustrated at having to adjust the tensions every time you use it, or when changing threads or sewing on different fabric types?😒
You say “I now only EVER use one colour of thread!”🧐
Do you say, “The stitch quality and balance is all wrong?”🤯
You don’t want to talk about using thicker threads through the loopers!😳

For some reason it seems that we have less time on our hands to be creative. When we do want to be creative, we would like to wear what we’ve made sooner than late. We want that feeling of total achievement of being proud of wearing something that we have made.
