The Jimmy Watson Trophy
The trophy is awarded annually for the best 1 or 2-year-old Australian dry red wine, recognizing excellence and contribution to the Australian wine industry. Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 won this prestigious award in 2018, and the winery has allowed us to ship a library parcel of just 20 cases, which is now available. This rare and highly awarded wine is a real treat, so grab a case or two before it all goes! “Focused and powerful, the deep but bright colour a come-on. Cassis is given context by cabernet tannins, which are firm, not dry.” 95 Points, James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2020, August 2019.

2024 Rosés (and one special 2023)
The new rosé vintage has landed! Bursting with fresh red fruit flavours and mouth-watering acidity, we have nine 2024 rosés (and one 2023) now in stock and available to order. We can particularly recommend Domaine Lafage Cote Rosé from the Roussillon. Domaine Lafage recently joined the portfolio. These wines are impressive, as are their regenerative approach to winemaking and dedication to the environment.
Simpson’s Railway Hill Rosé 2023 was awarded the Best Still Rosé trophy at the 2024 Wine GB Wine Awards. The judges described it as ‘bold and self-confident, powerful lemon zest, peach and ripe red cherries run through. There is excellent length and acidity and in perfect balance. This vintage was released in December 2024; their 2024 vintage will come later.

Villa Noria Levin 0% Blanc de Blancs NV

Villa Noria has developed an alternative method of creating alcohol-free wine. Whilst other alcohol-free wines available on the market are made either by diluting grape juice with other ingredients or dealcoholisation, Levin 0% wines are the result of a non-alcoholic fermentation using yeast and lactic acid bacteria that do not produce alcohol. This method preserves the varietal characteristics of the grape and respects the winemaking tradition. Levin Blanc de Blancs is a refreshing alternative to sparkling wine,
that does not compromise on flavour is sulphite and preservative-free, organic, and available in reusable bottles, reducing its carbon footprint.

Domaine Prieur-Brunet Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere 2017

My standout choice for April has to be the Domaine Prieur-Brunet Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere 2017. Recently sampled at our local tasting, this Burgundy stood out Head and shoulders from the rest.

The 2017 vintage was very dry but relatively cool. Luckily, the frost damage was minimal, and a combination of moderate day temperatures and cool evenings resulted in relatively good yield and wonderful flavour concentration.
Fermentation occurs in oak barrels, after which the wine is aged in casks for 12 months before bottling.
Rack of lamb with a herb crust, beef wellington, game dishes or mushroom quiche.
