You're invited to a hojicha tasting.
Hojicha is roasted green tea, something of a stepbrother to matcha, and it has more in common with coffee than you might think. Roasting it produces pyrazines, the same molecules behind coffee's roasted, nutty, toasty notes.
In Japan it's considered an evening drink, the kind you have after a meal. There are two reasons for that: it's very low in caffeine, unlike matcha, and it has proven antibacterial properties.
We're pouring seven hojicha-based drinks, from the pure tea to a hojicha dirty. Anything made with milk comes with your choice of dairy or plant-based milk.
We brought the hojicha back from Japan ourselves, from the Forthees cooperative in Sonogi, Nagasaki. FORTHEES has won Japan's national tea competition multiple times and holds a special award from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Hawker is Kangol's take on the classic eight-panel cap, ridged panels running up to a button at the centre and a fillet around the base for fit. This one is knit from bamboo viscose, soft and cool in the hand and light enough to wear right through summer. The flat crown and short peak give it a shape that works either way round, peak forward for the usual look or turned to the back.

We've brought Sonogi hojicha to Tbilisi, and it's now on our menu.
Hojicha is roasted green tea, whisked from powder like matcha but warm and nutty, a bit like toasted caramel. It has much less caffeine than coffee, so in Japan it's an evening tea, usually drunk after dinner.
Ours is from Forthees, a small cooperative of tea growers in Sonogi, Nagasaki.
We whisk it with a pinch of dark sugar and use it for hot and iced lattes, a hojicha tonic and a hojicha bumble. Add a shot of espresso and you get a dirty hojicha, nuttier and deeper, with a long roasted finish. The whole leaves we cold brew in the fridge, or simply serve hot.
