Joshua Kissi is a Ghanaian-American creative entrepreneur specializing in photography and filmmaking, based in New York City. Born on April 25, 1989, in the Bronx, New York, to Ghanaian parents Alexander Kissi and Connie Osei, he developed an early passion for the arts. At seventeen, he began exploring photography, leading to the co-founding of the creative agency Street Etiquette in 2008, which focused on storytelling, branding, and marketing through visuals.
Transitioning from photography to filmmaking, Kissi has directed several notable films, including "A Great Day in Accra" (2019), a visual tribute to Ghanaian creatives; the Ghana segment of Beyoncé's "Black Is King" (2020); and "For Love & Country" (2022), a documentary exploring the Black roots of country music.
His upcoming short film, "It Takes A Village," set in 1965 Georgia, delves into a father's preparation of his son for manhood through a traditional deer hunting rite. Inspired by Kissi's experiences as a new parent, the film examines themes of masculinity, parenthood, and generational traditions. Starring Michael Ealy as Lawrence Cooke, the film is slated for release in 2024.
Kissi's work has garnered significant recognition. He was featured in Fast Company's list of the 100 Most Creative People and was dubbed a "generational culture shifter" by the Huffington Post. His photography has been exhibited in institutions like the Art Gallery of Ontario, and he has collaborated with brands such as Apple, Adidas, and GQ.
Through his diverse body of work, Joshua Kissi continues to amplify underrepresented voices, bridging cultural narratives between Ghana and the global stage.
