The Fates – or Moirai – are a group of three weaving goddesses who assign individual destinies to mortals at birth. Their names are Clotho (the Spinner), Lachesis (the Alloter) and Atropos (the Inflexible). In the older myths, they were the daughters of Nyx, but later, they are more often portrayed as the offspring of Zeus and Themis. They had enormous power and even Zeus was unable to recall their decisions.

When Darius some time before sent messengers for the same purpose, they were thrown, at , into the pit of punishment, at into a well, and bidden to take therefrom earth and water for themselves, and carry it to their king.

Why Oedipus is considered as a wise man of the world?
Because he is the first man to point out and teach mankind that such kind of sexual relations are not acceptable. To stand with dignity, humanly in front of death and mishap.
"Edipo Re-1967" is one the favourites and would really recommend watching,it's a masterpiece!
