Behold the Winged Victory of Samothrace, also known as the Niké of Samothrace. This breathtaking Hellenistic masterpiece was originally discovered on the island of Samothrace in the northern Aegean Sea. Dating back to the early 2nd century BC (circa 190 BC), it features a statue of the goddess Niké (Victory), notably missing her head and arms, poised atop a base resembling the prow of a ship.

Standing a majestic 5.57 meters tall, including its base, with the statue alone at 2.75 meters, it ranks among the few significant original Hellenistic sculptures that have survived, rather than being known through Roman reproductions. Since 1884, the Winged Victory has graced the Louvre Museum in Paris, proudly positioned at the head of the main staircase. Currently, there are efforts by Greece to reclaim this iconic sculpture.
